“Yeah.”

He rubs a hand over his jaw, then glances at me. “You good?”

I nod. “Terrified. But yeah. Good.”

He nods back.

I lean my head against the back of the couch, watching her breathe. “She’s strong. Stronger than us, probably.”

Asher chuckles. “No argument here.”

I watch her shift in her sleep, one hand resting low on her stomach like she’s already claiming them. All three. Like she’s already theirs.

Triplets.

What the hell do we even do with that kind of news?

But I know this: I’ve played in arenas that shook under screaming crowds. I’ve scored goals that flipped games. I’ve had agents deliver news that changed my life.

None of that touched this. Not even close.

I reach for the remote and turn the TV on low, flipping toNational Geographic. A pack of wolves running through snow lights up the screen, the familiar background hum filling the space.

The couch dips slightly beside me as Asher settles in, arms crossed, legs stretched out.

We sit like that for a while. Just listening to her breathe. Watching the future barrel toward us.

I’m anchored. Right here. Right now. With her. With them. With everything we never expected, but suddenly can’t imagine not having.

Triplets.

Holy shit.

And somehow, I’m smiling.

Leo shows up later in the afternoon. He strides through the front door like he owns the place, a little too loud and filled with energy. He’s always got that intensity, that larger-than-life presence.

Madeline’s curled up on the couch, eyes half-lidded, still not fully recovered from this morning. I’m sitting across from her, Asher beside me.

Leo pauses when he sees us all in the living room. He looks around, confused. His gaze lands on Madeline, and his expression shifts.

He can see the tension in the air, the way the two of us are hovering over her like she’s something fragile.

Madeline sits up slowly, pushing the blanket off her legs, the uncertainty in her eyes so much clearer now. Asher shifts his weight, and I can see him preparing to drop the bomb.

“We have something to tell you,” Asher says quietly. He glances at me, then at Madeline, before turning back to Leo. “We’re expecting more than what we initially thought.”

Leo freezes, his eyes widening just a fraction. He looks at Madeline, then at me, then back at her, blinking a few times like he’s waiting for the punchline.

“Wait, what?” Leo’s voice breaks the silence, not angry, just pure confusion.

“Triplets,” I say softly, watching the shock wash over his face.

It’s like his brain is trying to process a puzzle with pieces missing. I can see him trying to connect the dots, the gears turning in his head as he stares at Madeline.

He finally finds his voice again, but it’s not the usual sarcastic, confident tone I’m used to.

“Triplets?” Leo repeats, his voice a little strained, though he’s trying to hold it together. “How the hell…?”
