Everything floods back in a crashing wave. The stands. The dizzy spin. The ice that blurred and tilted as everything slipped out from under me.
Then them. Leaving the game. The three of them showing up here instead of finishing what was probably the most important match of their season.
Or their careers.
I stare at the ceiling. My heart’s racing again, for all the wrong reasons.
What have I done?
This is bad. This is so incredibly bad.
Leo’s job. That coaching position he worked his ass off for. He had to fight for every inch of respect in that locker room. And now it’s gone.
All because I fainted. Because I showed up pregnant and messy and let three men get tangled in my chaos.
A sharp knock. The door creaks open.
My brother walks in, looking both furious and heartbroken. His suit jacket is wrinkled like he’s been traveling all day, and behind him are Logan and Daisy, hovering in the doorway.
I let out a choked sound and cover my face with my hands, but it’s too late. The sob rips out of me anyway. Loud. Ugly. Raw.
The noise wakes them.
Asher’s out of his chair like he was never asleep, reaching for me. Ford blinks awake, then instantly leans forward, scanning my face. Leo’s hand tightens on my ankle, and then he’s up too, eyes wide and alert.
Henry raises a hand. “I need a minute with my sister.”
Logan steps inside, Daisy close behind him. “You doing okay, Mads?” Logan asks, voice soft. “You gave us a scare.”
“She looks better,” Daisy adds, her eyes kind.
I nod but can’t speak yet.
“We’re gonna take the guys,” Logan tells them. “Let them get changed, breathe a little. You three can come back after.”
Each of them kisses me before they leave.
Ford is first, pressing one to my temple. “Don’t move, okay?”
Asher cups my cheek. “You’re everything.”
Leo leans in and rests his forehead against mine for a second, eyes closed. “I’d do it all again.”
Then the door clicks shut, and it’s just me and Henry.
He sits in the chair Ford vacated and reaches for my hand. His grip is warm and grounding.
“I fucked up,” I whisper. “I ruined everything. Their careers… their futures… Leo’s job. It’s all my fault.”
Henry leans forward, elbows on his knees, expression tight. “They made that choice. And I respect the hell out of them for it.”
“But—”
“No. Mads. Stop.” He squeezes my hand. “They care about you. Anyone can see that. They didn’t run because they’re stupid. They ran because they love you.”
I close my eyes. The tears come again, silent this time.
“How are you doing? Really?”
