I’ll just make sure he never forgets me.
I take a deep breath, plant my feet—and absolutely nail the rest of the audition.
CHAPTER SIX
Leo
What in thehell is she doing here?
I watch Madeline adjust the mascot head, her face flushed from exertion.
She isn’t supposed to be here, looking for a job. I thought she was in town visiting her brother…
Or did she lie?
Did she just say that because she never wanted to see me again?
I push the thought away as she finishes her routine, giving a stupidly adorable little wave before stepping back in line.
Ace clears his throat. “Alright, next.”
I force myself to look away, even as my brain short-circuits trying to figure out how the hell I ended up in this situation.
The next guy steps forward. Some college student with good energy but no coordination.
He trips twice and nearly face-plants into the boards. Ace mutters something under his breath before waving him off.
Another audition. Then another. Both mediocre. Neither nearly as charismatic as Madeline.
Which is bad. So fucking bad.
Because if she scores this job, she becomes an employee.
And the Miami Icemen have a strict no-fraternization rule.
The players? They flaunt it. Half the team has been caught with someone they weren’t supposed to be with.
But coaches? Not a fucking chance.
And worse—she’ll be under me.
Not in the way I fucking want, either.
Ace glances over, brow raised. “You good?”
I blink. “Yeah.”
“You look like shit.”
“Didn’t sleep well.”
Ace grunts, turning back to the list. “Alright, let’s narrow it down. We’re endorsing two for the final audition.”
I straighten in my seat, forcing my pulse to slow the fuck down.
Ace marks a name first.
Madeline.
