Madeline steps closer, her breath uneven. “It’s my fault.”

Ford’s head snaps up. “No, it’s not.”

I stare at them. The tension between them is thick—too thick. I don’t understand.

“Okay,” I say slowly. “Someone needs to start making sense.”

She swallows, looking down at her hands, before exhaling hard. “Leo and I…” Her voice falters, but she pushes through. “We were together, kind of.”

Silence.

I blink. “You werewhat?”

She flinches, but she doesn’t back down. “It was a mistake. It was right after I came to Miami.”

Ford’s jaw ticks, his hand curling into a fist despite the bandage.

I drag my hands through my hair, exhaling sharply. “Fuck, Maddie.”

Her mouth presses into a tight line. “I’m sorry.”

Ford’s gaze softens, but his voice is firm. “Stop apologizing.”

I nod. “It was in the past, right?”

Her lips part, and she hesitates for half a second. “Right.”

A knock on the door cuts through the room.

We all turn. And then he walks in.

Leo.

Ford tenses immediately, shifting forward like he’s ready for round two.

Leo’s gaze flicks to Maddie first. He doesn’t look surprised to see her here. His expression is unreadable, but his voice is measured when he speaks.

“Can we talk?”

Ford’s breathing sharpens, his fists clenching again.

I cross my arms. “What the hell do you want?”

Leo exhales, rubbing the back of his neck. “I got the ban lifted.”

That makes Ford freeze.

Leo looks at him. “You can play.”

Silence stretches. I don’t know what reaction I expected from Ford, but I sure as hell didn’t expect nothing. He just stares at Leo, unreadable.

Leo shifts his weight. “Can I come in?”
