Those were just a few of the shades of red surrounding me. Everyone’s fabrics were a different hue, but they all combined to make Roulette’s heart happy.
The handwritten place cards helped me find my place at the table without hassle. I took my seat along with the others. Rehearsal for everyone had already ended. Though I wasn’t in the wedding party, I was part of all the festivities. Roulette wouldn’t allow me to sit anything out. In fact, she forbid it. They’d welcomed me into their family and made sure that it wasn’t a time I felt like anything other than a member.
My eyes darted around the table, landing on long limbs and perfectly sculpted features. I inhaled deeply, trying to catch the breath that the man just a few chairs away from me had stolen.
Chemistry Childers.
His presence was magnetic. Monumental. Gravitational. Pivotal. Swaying. Enamoring. Disruptive.
God that man is special.
I pulled my gaze from his frame, hoping to regain control of my nervous system. I failed completely as I met August’s eyes.
God, please save me.
I was surrounded by men of every caliber except the useless ones. Except the penniless ones. Except the pointless ones. Except the grimy ones.
They reeked of wealth. And, they were all sporting bands that tied them to the women who didn’t stray too far from their waistlines. All except August. And, Koen.
It won’t be very long.
My heart said so. August was ready for what he was surrounded by. It was in a man’s nature. I’d been in the right place at the perfect time. Marriage for August was inevitable. My presence only sped up his timeline and made his search for love nonexistent.
I tucked my bottom lip into my mouth. The floodgates had opened. Witnessing his beauty broke the levees. I wouldn’t last very long in the panties held up by the crack of my behind.
“Well, I’ll start by thanking everyone for taking the time to join us for this joyous occasion. I doubt any of us thought we’d ever see this day,” Roulette chuckled, “But with dick like Israel’s, anything is possi–”
“Roulette–” Chemistry interrupted.
“Not today, Teddy. This is my shit.”
Sighing, Chemistry shook his head and tilted his glass in her direction.
He wasn’t alone. There were groans from everyone around the table.
“If y’all don’t want to be here, just say that,” Roulette fussed.
“Just spare us the details,” Range suggested.
“Mom is here–” Roaman reminded Roulette.
“She has seven children. Obviously Richie had some decent d–”
“Princess,” Israel chuckled, taking the drink in her hand. “I think we’ve had enough for the evening.”
“Baby, I’m serious.”
“Oh, I know,” he assured her.
The room roared in laughter. No one was ever prepared for what was to come out of Roulette’s mouth. I used the opportunity to stand and escort myself to the guest bathroom. My panties were drenched, and I would soon ruin the fabric of my dress. Ovulation was not on my side this evening.
My dampened thighs were kissed by the chill of the home. I followed the small signs with directions until I found the nearest bathroom. I reached the cozy nook underneath another staircase.
There were red hand towels, soap dispensers, mints, and toothpicks. The attention to detail was dreamy. It made me wonder how much thought and money had truly gone into the three-week-long event.
The handle of the door shook, startling me. I watched, hoping I’d secured the lock. It wasn’t long before I discovered I had, but it hardly mattered.
August pushed into the small space. Words failed him. Thoughts failed me. My body was hoisted into the air and planted on the counter.
