“Well? Don’t just stand there staring at it. Go try it on. We want to see how it looks on you,” Morgan prompted.

Taking the dress, Kitty headed for the changing rooms. Once it was on, she took a moment to appreciate how good the dress looked before opening the door to show the others.

“Oh my God, the poor man isn’t going to know what hit him when he gets a load of you in that dress, babes,” Morgan exclaimed, her eyes gleaming with excitement for her friend.

Kitty looked over at Lee. “So, what do you think?” she asked, wondering at the funny look on the other woman’s face.

The moment Kitty spoke to her, the look disappeared from her face. Lee smiled, taking a moment to reply, “You look amazing. He’s a lucky guy.”

“Well, Morgs, I’ve got to say, you’ve done it again. I love it. Now let’s get shoes and a clutch and get the hell out. I’m starving.”

Pulling into the parking lot,he’d found the spot she’d told him to park in. Hopping out, he took in the layout of the complex. Having arrived a couple minutes early, Gray waited until exactly seven to ring the bell at the security gate to Kitty’s complex. A moment later, he heard her answer.

“Yes?”

“Hi, it’s Gray.”

“Hi Gray. Come on up.”

He headed up to her first-floor apartment, foregoing the lift and taking the stairs instead. Reaching her door, he knocked then turned to take in the magnificent view of Table Bay at night from the walkway that ran past the front of her apartment. He heard the door open behind him. Taking one last look at the view, he turned toward the open door and froze.

He was sure his brain short-circuited because he could do nothing more than stand and stare at the vision in front of him. Killer black dress, killer heels, and killer curves, all wrapped in one perfect package. How the hell was a man supposed to think?

Slowly, his eyes travelled from the tip of her head to the tip of her toes. He swallowed. Hard. Returning his gaze to hers, he felt the slow burn of desire. Not wanting to scare her off before they even left, Gray belatedly held out the bunch of pure white carnations he’d brought her.

Finally finding his voice, he said, “Hi there.” His words came out huskier than usual, so he cleared his throat before continuing. “These are for you.”

She smiled, showing him her dimple. Reaching out a graceful hand, she took the flowers from him.

“Hi. Thank you so much. These are absolutely beautiful. Let me just pop these in some water and we can get going.”

When she turned on her heel to go put the flowers in water, he felt his jaw drop open. There was absolutely no back to the dress. Just some gold chain criss-crossing the expanse of smooth, unmarred skin of her back.Well, damn!

Keep it together, Gray! Cool, stay cool.Deciding it was best he didn’t follow her into the apartment, he called after her, “I’ll just wait out here for you then.”

“No problem. I’ll just be a minute,” she replied.

In no time, she was back. She locked her apartment and turned to him. Putting a hand to the small of her back, he led her over to the lift. His hand seemed to almost burn where it touched the skin of her bare back. He bit back a groan. It was going to be a long night.

Usually, Gray had no problem showing the ladies how he felt, but there was something special about Kitty. She wasn’t his usual one-night stand or short-term, no-strings attached hook-up. He tamped down his baser desires and focused on what she was saying.

“Sorry, I missed that. Say again?”

Kitty turned her head to look at him. Instead of repeating herself, she said,“Is everything okay, Gray? You seem a little distracted.”

Biting back a snort, he smiled down at her. There was no way in hell he was confessing to her that she had him tied up in knots. And it wasn’t a feeling he was used to. He was used to being the one who did the knot-tying.

“Sorry I seem a little distracted. This Kloofnek case has me a little out of sorts. Otherwise, all good. No problems.”

It was only a partial untruth. The case did have him out of sorts. Just not right that second. That was one hundred percent all the delectable Ms Spence.

“Is there a problem with the case?”

“Let’s not talk about the case, shall we? Let’s just focus on having a good evening, yeah?”

“Sounds like a good idea.” Kitty smiled. “Where are we going?”
