Chapter 3

Brek

Leaving Sienna’s home was harder than he thought it would be.

From the second he saw her as she opened her front door, it felt like someone had hit him in the chest with a sledgehammer.

She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen in his entire life. Hands down.

She was small, only about 5’4 or so. Not quite reaching his shoulder.

She had dark brown hair, and dark green eyes.

They were full of her emotions and showed everything on her face.

He could read her like a book. And he knew that she had been scared. No, not scared. Terrified.

He didn’t like knowing how scared she was. Not one bit. Normally when he went on house calls, he did his job and that was that.

But she called to him in such a way that it was difficult to do or focus on anything else.

When he pulled her into his arms, needing to take her fear away and she melted into them, that was it.

She was his. He knew it without a doubt. And damn if it didn’t feel amazing.

He finally found the woman that was meant to be his. The one he had been searching for and the one he had waited for.

The one he knew was out there. That was meant to be his and his alone.

He didn’t care that she couldn’t talk. It didn’t matter. He would be her voice. Or she could write her responses and he would let her do that too.

He looked at her house for a few more minutes and watched as she found a few things and then turned off the lights.

He didn’t like not being able to see her, but she must be going to sleep.

He took a deep breath and got out of his cruiser, walking around the perimeter one more time.

He found a greenhouse tucked into the side of a small hill and saw as Sienna walked inside and shut the door.

Hearing the click of a lock made him smile and he felt good enough that she was taking her safety seriously that he could leave.

Getting back in his cruiser he backed out of her driveway and headed back toward the station.

He needed to talk to Trace. His deputy needed to know about the new development in the case and that he had found the love of his life.

As he drove, he wondered why the person doing the break-ins all over town had decided that tonight was the night to change his M.O.

It bothered him to not know the mystery behind this and he vowed to figure out the puzzle as soon as possible.

Pulling into the station, Brek was out of his car and walking through the doors in seconds.

Trace was at his desk and though it was now almost 10 in the evening, looked as though he wasn’t leaving anytime soon.

They both often worked late, neither having anyone to go home to and Brek wanted to smile that he had someone now.

Trace looked up and raised an eyebrow as Brek walked to his desk.

“What’s up? Stacy said there was a call about a break in. That someone actually went into their house when they were home? That is new.”
