He stepped back from her as she gave him a questioning look. He shrugged as if he could read her facial expression, “It’s true. I went on a few dates in high school, but I knew that they weren’t the girl for me. So, it never went beyond a first date.”
At her raised eyebrows and look of shock on her face he laughed, “I only went out on three dates. After that, I didn’t go again. I had met all the girls that lived in town and none were mine. They were all nice, but they weren’t the one for me. Even when I left for college and the police academy, I knew that I hadn’t met her yet either. And I was right. You were hiding from me.”
She bit her lip again, and then silently giggled. Bending over and picking up her notebook she wrote, “You have no idea what hearing that means to me. You're such a handsome man, I'm having a hard time believing you didn’t date much.”
He laughed and kissed her softly again. “Sweetness, is it really so hard to believe that I wanted to wait for the woman that is meant to be mine?”
She searched his face and shook her head. Then wrote, “I just don’t know. I have never heard of a man like you. You are a dream. Too good to be real. You just met me last night. Are you sure this isn’t too fast?”
He read her words and shook his head. “This isn’t too fast. Not to me. I've been waiting to find you my entire life. And from the moment you opened the door, with your frightened eyes looking up at me, I knew you were it for me. The woman I would love, protect and take care of for the rest of my life.”
She gaped up at him and he smiled again. “Close that mouth sweetness. Now that I know what you taste like, I am trying to be a gentleman and give you space.”
Her eyes widened and she wrote, “But are you sure? I don’t want to fall in love with you only to be hurt later.”
He gave a chuckle, “I can guarantee that you won’t be hurt by me. It is now my mission in life to make you happy and give you the world. Your heart and love will be safe in my hands. Just like I know my heart will be safe in yours. I told my dad about you today. And while he was shocked, I have never even looked at a woman before. Never spoke of one like this. But he is happy for us.”
She shook her head and wrote, “You told your dad about me?”
He laughed, “Of course I did. You are mine.”
She bit her lip and he pulled it from her teeth. “The only person who gets to bite this lip is me.”
And with that he took her mouth in another kiss, proving his point that he could bite her lip, which he did, softly.
She melted into his strong arms and kissed him back.
When he pulled back, she was breathing hard and he moved to sit back down in his chair.
“If I stay in that kitchen, we won’t be eating the meal that you made.”
She covered her mouth and blushed. She put the food on two plates and set one in front of him, then one in front of the seat next to him.
He shook his head, “That isn’t going to work sweetness.”
She gave him a confused look and he pulled her into his lap, nuzzling her neck.
“There, that's much better.”
She silently laughed and when he cut her a piece of steak, she opened her mouth and ate it.
He took turns feeding her a bite, then himself until their plates were empty.
He stood, taking her with him and put her on her feet.
“Let me help with the dishes.”
She shook her head and he shook his. “You made the dinner I will help clean up. My mom would box my ears if she knew I didn’t help.”
She went to bite her lip again. He raised one eyebrow at her, and she left it be.
Leading him over to the sink, he washed the dishes and she dried them off and put them away.
“Do you want to start a movie?”
She nodded, and he pulled her into the living room. He sat her on the couch and then walked to where her movies sat in a bookshelf by her television.
He looked them over, “Any particular movie?”
She shook her head and he grinned. He had to stop doing that. He was much too handsome.
He picked a movie and pulled her into his lap again. “I quite like having you in my arms.”
She leaned back into him and he kissed her softly.
She let him snuggle her close as the movie started, and her eyes grew heavy. Reminding her of her sleepless night. Her eyes shut and his arms tightened around her, making her feel safe and so cherished.
