“I should probably clean you up, but I just want to lay here a little longer.”
She nodded and hugged him tighter, which made him chuckle.
“Yeah, I was hoping you would feel the same.”
She kissed his chest again and shut her eyes, the smooth thump of his heartbeat in her ear made her take a deep breath and then another.
As she was drifting off to sleep, she heard him whisper that he loved her.
It had to have been a dream or she was hearing things that weren’t real.
Either way, she was too far gone to do anything about it.
Letting sleep overtake her, she hoped in the morning that she would be able to tell him that she loved him too.
