She had once found two small kittens out in the small forest behind her house and they lived with her now.
Each having the sweetest personalities and never making a noise. One of the kittens was pure black, with only a tiny patch of white on his chest, the other was a beautiful calico. She had half her face striped orange, as well as her legs, her paws pure white as well as her back legs and she was all different colors of black, orange and white throughout her body.
They were her babies and she loved them both. Walking back into the kitchen, not wanting to pay them any mind when they were playing, she heard it again. And this time, the cats also heard the noise. Shadow, her black cat had gone still. Not even his tail twitched. Which was not like him.
She had no idea what to do and with each passing moment, she was getting more and more scared, finally turning off the stove to listen better.
Callie went up in a protective stance in the living room, when another noise came from the back door of her house.
Sienna went still, hearing the noise come again, and not liking it a single bit. She grabbed for her phone that was programmed to be able to talk through it as her voice when she texted what she wanted it to say.
The voice she used sounded almost human but had no emotion in it. Just would say what she needed it to say and that was it. She was grateful she had stumbled across the app a few years ago.
She immediately dialed 911 and watched in fear as the once locked doorknob on the back door turned slowly.
It was all too familiar of a sight to see, one she never wanted to see ever again in her lifetime, and she could take it no longer.
She didn’t want to wait for the person to see her, not this time, so she ran to her bedroom, the cats close behind her as she did.
She shut herself in her room and typed as fast as she could that there was an intruder in her house and that she was scared.
She gave them her address and told the woman on the phone that she had locked herself in her bedroom, and she needed someone to come as soon as possible because they were now walking down the hall in her house.
She held her breath, her body shaking with fear from this and from the past trying to rear its ugly head and watched as the doorknob on her locked bedroom door tried to turn.
Since it was locked, and she had shoved a chair under it for good measure, it didn’t open but it shuddered under the pressure of someone hitting it. She hid tighter in the corner next to her bed.
She was shaking uncontrollably, terrified to the bone at what was happening, of what could happen if the person was able to get into her room. Just as she was thinking the worst thoughts, she heard the sirens.
The shuddering of the door stopped, and she heard the person run out of her house.
She stayed where she was and put her head on her legs. Her arms were wrapped around them and she was rocking slowly back and forth.
She heard someone yell loudly outside, and then the cop opened her front door, “This is the police! Ma’am, we are here to check on the property. We have a report that someone broke into your home.”
She could hear him check each room and she unfolded herself from the corner and stood, making her way to her bedroom door.
She opened it with shaking hands when he called from the other side of the door, “This is the police. Ma’am.” To see the brightest blue eyes staring down at her from the face of the most handsome man she had ever seen.
He was in his uniform and he had his gun out, pointing it down at the ground when she opened the door.
She heard him suck in a breath and he asked, “Are you the one who called 911?”
She nodded and he said, “You said there was an intruder, are they still here? I checked the house, but no one was here.”
She shook her head, and he said, “I need to take a better look around if you don’t mind. I just want to make sure they are gone.”
He went from room to room and finding where the person had broken into her house. The memory of seeing the doorknob which she knew was locked, slowly turn as it opened made her start shaking again.
The man came to her side and pulled her into his arms. “It’s all right sweetness. I know you're scared, but I'm here now. This wasn’t the normal M.O. of this guy and I don’t like it. But you're all right now. I have you. It’s all right.”
Sienna folded into his large arms and stood, feeling warm and safe.
He smelled good. His cologne was filling her senses and putting her at ease, the scent was soothing and something that she'd never smelled before and she loved it.
It was shocking to her that she would so readily fit into this man’s arms, a stranger no less and not worry about what he would think about her, or anything, but here she was.
Safe, warm and secure. He pulled her back slightly and she had to tilt her head back to look up into his bright blue eyes.
