Chapter 17
Emery
After Kian had dragged her away kicking and screaming he thought he had her under control, but the second he put her down, she turned and decked him as hard as she could in the face, and he stepped back in shock.
She took that opportunity to run back to where Trace stood, and the clicking under his feet got faster and louder with each second that passed.
It was terrifying and when Trace locked eyes with Reid and told him to take care of her, she couldn’t stand it. Her heart broke and she screamed as Reid tackled Trace, throwing him off to the side and taking the brunt of the blast himself.
It also threw her backwards and she hit a tree, blackness taking her.

When she came to, it was dark. And she didn’t know where she was. Or why she was there.
She heard a soft beeping sound coming from a machine next to the bed and when she turned she saw soft green waves moving up and down in a regular rhythm.
And she saw that there was a big man seated next to her bed.
He had dark hair, and was dressed in scrubs, fast asleep. He also had a few bandages on his arm, but she didn’t know why. Was he her doctor?
No, that wasn’t right. She knew him. She just didn’t know why. She tried to reach her hand out to him, but it pulled slightly, and she saw that it was attached to an I.V.
This entire thing was strange. She noticed her hands were covered in bandages and that she had some on her neck as well.
Her hands felt sore, like she had gotten a burn on them. Like grabbed a hot pan without oven mitts and she couldn’t remember why they hurt.
Or who the man was, and she started freaking out.
Her breathing picked up and sawed in and out of her chest and she noticed more things that hurt.
Her head for example. It throbbed and was aching the more she freaked out.
The door opened to her room and a nurse rushed inside. Waking the man and causing him to jump from his seat, making it crash to the floor.
She put her hands over her ears at the noise and he cursed, “I'm so sorry. Oh my god. I'm sorry Em.”
The nurse laughed, “I didn’t mean to scare you, but her heartbeat was erratic, so I needed to check on her.”
He nodded, “It’s alright. I am a light sleeper and should have heard her and you.”
He ran a hand over his face, and she wanted to comfort him so badly.
She tried to reach her fingers out to him but pulled back. He looked down at her and smiled.
She gave him a tiny smile back and then the nurse was at her side, “Are you doing alright hun? When your heartbeat went funny, I had to come check. Are you in pain?”
She shook her head, “Not really, my head hurts a little, but I just didn’t know where I was. And it scared me.”
The nurse nodded, “I understand that. You are in the hospital. You were caught in a blast and have some burns and hit your head hard enough that you gave yourself a concussion.”
She bit her lip and nodded, “I don’t remember the blast. Is that normal?”
The nurse nodded, “Some amnesia is normal. It should all come back. Don’t stress.”
She nodded and lay back against her bed.
The nurse patted her shoulder softly, “I will get the doctor.”
