It overlooked the backyard and she had a great view of the mountains from that window.
There was a patio in the back, and it was strung with lights and had chairs, a grill and a rug on the concrete.
It looked inviting. And she and Emery each had their own bed.
Her bed pulled out from under Emery’s, but it was a nice bed that went to the same size as Emery’s.
She put her purse on the untaken bed and went to get her first box.
When she went to get her second, none other than Kian himself was holding the large box and it made her gasp in surprise.
That man. He always popped up when she wasn’t expecting it, nor did she want to see him.
She did her best to ignore him, and when he insisted on helping her with her boxes, she rolled her eyes at him.
She didn’t know why he was here. He normally avoided her like the plague, but yet, here he was.
And looking even more handsome than when she last saw him.
His hair was cut longer on top and shaved close to his head on the sides.
Her fingers itched to touch the brown and blonde strands so badly they twitched, and she refused to let her body rule her.
When he gave her the lopsided grin that he only gave to her, it made her heart beat harder.
Damn it. She did not want to be affected by him at all.
Yet here she was. He helped her with the last of the boxes and tried to lead her to his car to take her to the hospital, when a handsome man with dark hair pulled up to the house.
He got out, “Hey, Karalee. Do you want a ride to the hospital?”
She accepted and left Kian staring behind her. She needed to keep her distance from him.
As she got in the car, the man held out his hand, “Trace Barker.”
Karalee took his hand, “Karalee White. Pleasure.”
Trace grinned, “It sure is. Emery has told me a lot about you. She has been so excited that you were moving here.”
Karalee smiled, “I have been kind of nervous, but also excited. It will be good for me to start a new chapter here.”
Trace smiled, “This town is a great place for that. I also started life over here. I didn’t know what awaited me when I moved here two years ago, but it has kept me on my feet. Making me realize the life I thought I wanted to live was not it at all.”
She gave a small laugh, “I can imagine. Knowing Emery, she shakes up everyone’s world.”
Trace laughed, “That she does. I met her when she was trying to ninja kick a box out of her car. She was adorable.”
Karalee laughed, “I can see her doing something like that for sure. She is something else.”
Trace laughed again, “I love it. She's my everything. My Sunshine. I can’t believe how great my life is now. Even though the last few days leave something to be desired, I wouldn’t change being with my sunshine for anything.”
She looked down and saw a few bandages on his arm. He caught her looking, “Did you hear what happened?”
She nodded, “A little. But everyone has been so worried, I haven’t heard the whole story.”
As he drove, he told her everything and she had to hold back the shock.
She knew about Emery’s stalker but had no idea he would go to such extremes.
