Karalee felt the tears prick her eyes, and she nodded. “I do know. Thank you. You and Ken have been the parents I always wished for.”

Ailith kissed her forehead and said, “Now we just have to get ye settled here. Help ye start yer life without yer mother hanging over ye.”

Karalee nodded, “I would love that. I saw the cute diner down the road and want to apply there. I might walk. If that is alright?”

Ailith laughed, “Ye can do whatever. Trace brought ye here right?”

She nodded and Ailith smiled, “If ye need a ride later, text me. I will come grab ye. Or Viv will.”

Karalee nodded and gave her goodbyes. She wanted to see what the town had in store for her and wanted to get out of there before Kian tried to give her a ride.

She hurried from the room, and left Kian behind. He knew she was leaving and had tried to say that he could give her a ride.

But she had ignored him and walked from the room.

She hurried down the hall and when a hand wrapped around her arm, slowing her, she knew it was Kian.

She wrenched her arm from his grasp, and turned to glare at him, “What?”

Kian smiled down at her, “Did you need a ride? I can give you one.”

She shook her head, “No thank you. I told your mom I wanted to walk. Excuse me.”

Kian stepped in front of her, “Kara, I wanted to talk to you.”

She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest, “You and I have nothing to talk about.”

Kian grinned again, “But we do. Please. I really want to talk to you.”

She shook her head, “Again, there is nothing to say. You've already said it all, heard it loud and clear. I'm good. Thanks though.”

He let out a groan, “I promise, it will be worth your while. Please.”

She shook her head, “I don’t want to hear it Kian. You have taken up too much of my headspace. You don’t need more.”

He grinned, “I have?”

She let out a groan this time, “Kian,”

He shook his head, “Listen, we are having a welcome home party for Emery tomorrow. Will you help me with that at least?”

She bit her lip and then gave him a tiny nod. “I am walking away now. Do not follow me.”

He laughed and she left the hospital. She hated that she was intrigued by what he had to say.

When she made it to the diner, she was positive that this was where she was meant to be.

After all the years of sadness, she finally found her happiness.

Finally found the place she knew she could call home.

When she walked in the diner, she was certain.

It smelled like home. Like the place she was most comfortable, and she grinned.

A young woman about her age walked over, “What can I do for you? Do you want to sit somewhere and eat?”
