It broke him when he saw how she tried to leave him alone after a time, but he could tell she wanted to talk to him still.

He wanted to talk to her.

He would always shut it down though and after a time, she didn’t ask him things anymore.

When she made it into high school finally, she had grown into such a beauty that he physically jerked when she was in the room.

It was a fight with his self-control to keep his fists at his side and not buried in her gorgeous long hair.

She had grown it long, and it was past her waist.

He wanted to run his fingers through the strands of dark brown hair.

The curls had loosened as the years had gone on, and every single day she looked as though she had spent hours curling her mass of hair, when she just ran a brush through it and went to school.

He loved it. And every day he had to choke down those words, about how beautiful she was and it made his chest burn and ache like he had eaten hot peppers for every single meal.

By the time she and Emery had gotten to high school, he couldn’t stand the thought of a single boy thinking that she was available, when she wasn’t, and neither was Emery, so he and Reid had spread the word, yet again, that no one was allowed to talk to their sister or Karalee.

The horrible boys still remembered the beating that the brothers had given out and were not looking forward to another.

Most boys kept their distance from the girls. Giving them a wide berth.

Emery hated it though. With a passion. She told them so often and they would look at each other and laugh.

She would scream at them and use her tiny fists to punch them in the shoulder, arm or stomach, but neither brother backed down in their protectiveness of her and Karalee.

When Prom season rolled around that year, both the girls waited for weeks to get asked.

One sniveling wimp of a new boy tried to ask Emery, but after he had spoken to the boy and told him that no one was allowed to date his sister, the boy backed out of their date before it even happened.

Emery hadn’t been thrilled with it and Karalee had comforted her.

They planned on going with each other to prom and when the week came, Kian convinced his mom to let him take Karalee.

Ailith had grinned and he told her he still remembered their talk and that he would just make sure Karalee had a date.

She deserved to go to at least one Prom.

Ailith thought it was unfair that they wouldn’t allow Emery to date, but that he could take Karalee.

She knew that there was a reason to take his girl, and had acquiesced to his wishes, with the promise that he would also bring Emery along and so Ailith had taken the girls shopping, but didn’t tell Karalee about his little surprise.

The night of the Prom came, and the girls were getting ready. Kian had bought a corsage for Karalee and one for Emery.

Even though she didn’t have a date he still wanted to do something nice for his sister.

She didn’t know the real reason why he was getting them each one.

He didn’t want Karalee to have any expectations, even though Ailith knew, but allowed it.

He listened to them getting ready and couldn’t wait to see Karalee in her dress.

He paced back and forth in the living room until he heard Emery’s door open and the girls giggling as they made their way to the stairs.

Emery came down first in a light pink gown that hugged her at the top and flared out at the bottom, and it was covered in small sparkles.

Her white blonde hair was pulled up in some sort of twisty style and she had sparkles on her eyelids.
