Stacy shook her head and Scott gave her a quick kiss, then walked to his office.
Sienna sat down next to Stacy and then Brek led him to his office.
“So, today is slow. As usual. Let’s hope it stays that way.”
He nodded, “I like it. Compared to the town we were in before? This is everything.”
He told Brek about the case that they had been involved in and Brek shuddered.
“I couldn’t even imagine. I hope that they find the man who could hurt a woman like that.”
Kian nodded, “Yeah. I hope so too.”
His phone rang and he pulled it out and looked down at it. Karalee.
He answered it, “Hey there love, is everything alright?”
“No, my mom OD’d last night. I have to go and identify and claim the body.”
He felt his smile drop from his face, “I will go with you.”
“It’s okay. I want to do this. I need to for me to get closure. Okay?”
He shook his head, and rolled his eyes, “I don’t want you to go alone.”
“Kian, this is something I have to do. I promise that as soon as I can figure out what I need to, I will have you come. Okay? Just trust me.”
He pinched the bridge of his nose, “Please be safe. I am begging you to be safe. To not take any chances. I just got you. I need to make both of our dreams a reality.”
She let out a small sigh, “I love you. You're so wonderful. I'll be back as soon as I can. Okay? Then we can get the furniture for our house. I can’t wait to live there with you.”
He gave a small smile, “I can’t wait for that either. Come back to me soon and if you need anything, anything at all, you will call me. Okay? I will drop everything to be at your side.”
“I will. I'll only be gone two days at the most.”
“You call me or text me every chance you have, or I'll worry the entire time. Please.”
“I will. I love you Kian. Thank you for giving me the world.”
“You are my world. I love you.”
She hung up and he shook his head over and over.
Brek’s eyebrow was raised, “Everything alright?”
Kian sighed, “I don’t know. Karalee said her mom OD’d and has to go claim her body. She wants to go alone, and I hate it.”
Brek nodded his head, “I would too.”
Kian cursed, “I just don’t want to do this. I have such a bad feeling about this.”
Brek waved his hand, “Go talk to her, seriously.”
Kian raised his eyebrow, “Really?”
Brek laughed, “Really. If it was my girl? There isn’t any way I would let her go alone. She may want closure, but she needs you there by her side. Take a few days. You have been doing double shifts lately.”
Kian thanked Brek and left the office and ran to his car, then drove to Gran’s house.
