Gray turned on a recording device and the three of them sat quietly while Isabelle reached for Roger’s hand and he held it while she started talking.

“I was headed home from work a few blocks away, and I heard a man and woman yelling at someone. I ran to see what was going on, and sure enough, there was a man and an older looking woman yelling at a girl no older than 18. She was scared, and I knew that she didn’t want to go with them, even though the man hit her and demanded that she come with, that he owned her and that if she didn’t go with him, that he would kill her and her mom.”

Isabelle shuddered, “He was horrible. Evil. You could smell it coming off him in waves. His hair was black and greasy, and brushed away from his face, and he had a scar down one cheek. His eyes were flat. Dark brown and dead inside. He terrified me.”

She shuddered again and Kian asked, “You said there was a woman with him. Can you describe her as well?”

Isabelle nodded, “She was thin. Like so thin you could count her ribs and her arms had tracks up and down them. As if she did drugs for years. She had wispy light brown hair and her eyes looked as if they could have once been vibrant but were dull and seemed as if they were lifeless. Like she had given up a long time ago. She also had hardly any teeth left. As if smoking and drinking and doing drugs had taken its toll on them.”

Isabelle looked at them, and she said, “She was evil as well. Hateful and full of malice. When the girl refused to go with them again, the woman slapped her hard across the face and her long nail caught the girl’s face, making her bleed and cry out, the man hit the skinny other woman for ‘scratching his merchandise’.”

She looked over at him, “That was when I had to step in. That girl was terrified and didn’t want to go with them and I knew if I didn’t do something, that she would be hurt, or forced to do what she didn’t want. You could tell it wasn’t a good thing and that she was someone that just wanted to go home. To not live that life.”

Kian’s stomach clenched as Isabelle talked and described the woman that was with the man. She sounded exactly like Lenora.

There couldn’t be two women who were wafe like and thin, with hardly any teeth and hair.

If there was, it was a sad, sad world indeed.

And if he had to make a bet, the man was Carlos.

Isabelle opened her mouth again, “I rushed in front of the girl and refused to move. I tried to call the cops, but it didn’t go through. When the man told me that it wasn’t any of my business and that I needed to get out of there before I ended up hurt, or dead, I had to stand my ground. I knew that if it was my little girl, I would want someone to protect her, and so I did just that.”

Isabelle shut her eyes, “The first punch came and the girl behind me screamed. Then she took off, and I am glad I gave her that chance to get away. Or I hope she did anyway.”

“Those people attacked me as if I killed their child in front of them. It wasn’t justified and I did my best to fight back, but they were vicious. Kicking me, hitting me, biting me. I finally fell to the ground and the man kicked me over and over again in the stomach and the woman hit my head into the ground over and over. I didn’t know when I passed out, but I do remember being conscious enough to feel them throwing me in the dumpster. And then I was out again. I don’t remember for how long. But when I could, I tried to make noise. It hurt. My ribs were broken, and I could barely breathe. It was all I could do to moan. But then two angels were there. They saved me. Pulled me out of the darkness and I can’t thank you enough.”

She pulled on his hand and he very gently hugged her. And Reid nodded his head through the phone, and Kian said, “You are so welcome. We are just officers that were doing our job and are so glad that we were able to help you.”

Isabelle lay back against her bed and Roger knelt next to her, and then looked over at him and Reid.

“You will find these people, won’t you? They almost killed my wife for being a good person. I beg you to find them.”

Kian looked down at his brother's face and then over at Gray. “We will do our very best.”

Roger stood and then hugged him and Gray. “Thank you. For finding her and for doing your best to find them.”

Kian nodded and Reid spoke up, “I know Kian will do everything in his power. I will too.”

Roger thanked Reid and then Kian stood, and they walked from the room.

Reid stared up at him, “Who does that woman sound like to you Kian? Please tell me we are thinking of the same woman.”

Kian gave him a tight nod, “I am thinking it. Reid I am terrified of telling Karalee. She will be so heartbroken.”

Reid nodded, “I know. You will protect her and heal her though. She needs to know.”

Kian shut his eyes and then nodded, “Okay. You are right. Get some sleep. We will hopefully be home within a few days.”

Reid nodded, “Good luck brother. Good to see you Gray.”

Gray nodded, “Hey there Reid. I am sorry about your accident. Kian told us.”

Reid grinned, “I'm not. I have a sexy nurse helping me out.”

Kian snorted, “Who? Grace’s maid?”

Reid laughed, “Not her. Though Sophia is sweet. No, Mila has been coming every day to help bring me to physical therapy. And she stays with me the entire time.”
