Kian laughed, “You sure won her over huh?”

Reid laughed, “Must have been my charm.”

Gray laughed out loud, “Not on your life Reid.”

Reid laughed again, “Fine, just my good looks then. Or maybe she is impressed with my scars. I hear girls like that.”

Kian rolled his eyes, “Sure Reid. Whatever you say. Get some sleep. See you soon.”

Reid waved and then hung up. When they got to Gray’s car, Kian put his head down on his hands for a second.

“What I'm going to tell my girl is going to break her heart. Tell me you are going to help her as much as you can while I go claim her mom’s body.”

He looked up at his friend and Gray nodded, “She is like my sister. Of course. Graham and I will take care of her. Show her the sights.”

Kian nodded and slid in the car while Gray started it.

He worried the entire time back to the house and when they pulled in the driveway, and walked in the house, Karalee was laughing.

She was watching a movie with Graham.

Kian didn’t see what it was, but Graham paused it when they walked in.

“How did it go? Did she remember what happened?” He asked and Kian nodded, “Yeah she did. Kara, angel. I have something to tell you.”

She sat up on the couch higher and her eyebrows were pinched together in confusion. “Okay?”

He sat next to her and Gray sat on the arm of the couch on her other side.

Kian told her what Isabelle had told them and when he mentioned Isabelle’s description of the woman and her eyes, she let out a strangled noise in her throat.

Her eyes filled with tears, “You think it was my mom don’t you?”

Kian gave a tight nod, “I believe so yes. I have never seen your eye color on anyone else, just your mom. And you. I know it wasn’t you.”

He also told her about the man. And Karalee flinched when he described the scar and the man’s greasy, evil appearance.

Then she put her hand to her mouth. “That’s Carlos. No one else looks like that.”

Kian nodded, “Listen, I need to find out what is going on with him. He is not a good man and if I don’t, he will go free and hurt more people. I have to do this to protect you.”

She grabbed his hand, “What if he hurts you? I'm so scared.”

Kian kissed her, “I'll be okay. This is my job angel. I have to do this. I have to protect you and the other women out there. From Isabelle’s description, this isn’t the first one he has hurt and it won’t be the last.”

Gray spoke up, “I'll go with him. Okay? He will be safe.”

Kian looked up at his friend and Gray nodded, “I’ve got your back.”

Kian pulled Karalee into his arms, “I love you. I want to do this so that this will be done. So it won’t hang over our lives like a cloud. Okay?”

She shuddered against him, then nodded, “You come back to me Kian. Or so help me, I will come after you and kick your butt.”

He bit his lip to keep from smiling, “Deal. Graham will keep you safe. Stay with him at all times. Okay?”

She nodded and then he kissed her one last time and nodded to Graham, “She'll be safe with me. I swear it Kian.”

Kian nodded and he and Gray walked out of the door and to his car.

Kian got in the driver’s seat and Gray sat in the passenger and it took everything in him to leave.
