But she did not get to tell him that. It hurt her, that he thought so little of her, that he ever thought she would judge him over something like that, when it had never once crossed her mind, and she wanted to tell him. To let him know that tiny thing about him was not going to scare her away.

She never thought about him missing a leg. It was not something that bothered her. Because he was so flawless with his prosthetic and without his leg on.

He climbed the rigging of his ship like he did not have an issue with his leg, and she would watch from a distance as he did so. His huge arms flexing and pulling his body up the ropes like it was nothing.

She would feel heat bloom deep inside her and loved seeing him so at ease on his ship.

When they had found out everything about Jacob, and Edward, she could hardly stand the pain and hurt she felt. The betrayal her mother would feel when they returned and gave her the news.

It broke her heart and she had sobbed. But he came to her, held her close and crooned in her ear that he was there, and that he would never let her go.

That she was safe and loved. And that last part made her wish he wasn’t just saying those things to calm her tears.

She longed to hear him say them to her and mean them and wished she was brave enough to say that to him. That she could tell him how she felt.

When he had fought so hard to keep her on his ship when they had found the other that held their loved ones, she had been so mad, until he had pressed his lips to hers.

And then, she was shocked. Right into stillness and she acquiesced without a fight.

She worried constantly that night, with Rhia by her side, and when the first men came back, she tended to their wounds.

But she worried. And worried. Scared that her brothers would not return, or Burk, Brooks or, well that thought could not be finished. She could not think of his death. at all.

Thankfully, Aidan had none, which made Rhia collapse into his arms in relief and as the others came, they were not as lucky.

She hadn’t seen him yet and tried her best to not search for him as more men returned from the other ship.

She had turned to go back into the cabin when arms wrapped around her from behind. And lips kissed the back of her neck.

She melted into Cabe’s arms, and he pulled her into a small nook that was tucked away and hidden from view and turned her to face him. Cupping her face in his hands, he kissed her.

Hard, perfect. His tongue entering her mouth, and dueling with her own. She sighed into his kiss and buried her hands in his hair.

“Cabe,” fell from her lips in a sigh, and he groaned against her mouth.

“Rose, my beautiful Rose.”

She let him kiss her, kissing him just as fiercely and when he kissed down her neck, and dipped his tongue under the fabric of her dress, she moaned his name.

He came up to kiss her lips again, and they heard someone else return from the rescue mission, Cabe finally released his hold on her.

He was breathing hard, and his hair was a mess from her fingers. His lips were shiny and wet, and she wanted to continue their kisses more.

He bowed to her slightly, “My lady, I need to check on my crew. Excuse me.”

Her jaw dropped open and he backed away from her and then walked away from her. She was panting, still breathing hard from his kiss, and she put her hands to her lips.

She hated that he left her in that moment. She had worried over him, and he just left like it wasn’t important. Hated that he still did such things. Wanted him to finish what he started. But she heard Cole’s voice. So she knew they had found Lily and Eden.

Fixing her dress and combing her hair out of her face, she had hurried to help them.

Blinking hard, Rose looked up at the canopy of her bed. She wanted nothing more than to stop thinking about Cabe, but nothing helped.

Sighing, she shut her eyes and tried to think of her vocabulary in French.
