Cabe
Northumberland, England April 1813
Cabe held Rose close as they walked up the stairs and Aidan rushed out of the door.
His face was concerned and Cabe knew he must have found out about Rose’s disappearance.
He pulled Rose from Cabe’s arms. “Oh, thank God.” He held her away from him after a moment and studied her face, for any sign of her kidnapping.
Cabe wanted to laugh, but knew it was an important moment between brother and sister.
Aidan gave her one final once over and nodded, “You are unharmed?”
Rose nodded, “I am fine Aidan. Truly. I am fine. Cabe saved me.”
Aidan turned to look at Cabe and he gave him a small smile. Holding out his hand to Cabe, Cabe took it and they shook.
“Thank you Cabe. For saving my sister.”
Cabe bowed slightly, “Of course Aidan. She is my life. The second I knew she was missing; it was my mission to find her. She is my everything.”
Aidan nodded and he led them into the house. Cabe was impressed by the foyer and how nice it was inside.
And he noticed that Aidan had only shirtsleeves and breeches with boots, no waistcoat in sight and it made him smile.
Aidan was not the Duke that everyone thought he was. He was just himself, and it showed.
Once everyone was inside, Cabe introduced his family to Aidan, and once again, it made him smile when Aidan stopped his mother from curtseying.
“Please don’t feel as if you need to do that. I am Aidan. That is all. No more, no less. Welcome to our home.”
Rhia came down the stairs slowly and Aidan rushed to her side, but only helped her down the last few steps with his large hand guiding her down.
Her stomach had gotten much bigger since Cabe had last seen her and she glowed.
Rose rushed into Rhia’s arms and they hugged and spoke in quiet whispers for a few moments.
Rose and Rhia both turned to the room and Rhia was introduced as well and Cabe smiled once again at the graciousness that Rhia bestowed on his family.
Lydia and Jacob came down next and another round of introductions happened.
Cabe felt a touch to his arm and saw Rhia standing in front of him.
He leaned down and kissed her cheek softly. “Welcome home Cabe. I am so relieved to see you here. Back with Rose and unharmed.”
Cabe smiled down at her, “I am as well. We just got back very recently and after going to find Rose, we came here to wed.”
Rhia’s eyes lit up, “Oh truly? That is so wonderful. Congratulations Cabe. I always knew you were the man for Rose.”
She hugged Cabe the best she could, and he hugged her back.
Lydia clapped her hands, “Let me get you all situated in some rooms and then we shall have dinner.”
They all followed her up the stairs to some rooms, and as they were eating dinner and explaining about their marriage, everyone was excited.
Everyone chipped in to plan their wedding and Cabe was smiling like a loon by the end of it.
But the hour grew late and he saw Rhia yawn several times, which made Aidan lift his wife into his arms and carry her from the room.
