Epilogue
Brooks
Somewhere in the Ocean Nov, 1812
They had spotted the ship that had the girls in the distance and Brooks was ready for a fight.
He wanted nothing more than to save Lily and help in any way he could.
It was important to Burk, so it was important to him.
He and his brother had gone through a lot in their lives and he was just grateful that he was able to help in this small way.
When Cabe called for them to be ready, Brooks grabbed his sword, two different guns and his knife.
His knife went into his boot and he rolled his neck from side to side and readied for the fight ahead.
And a fight it was, but Brooks had been fighting his entire life. Nothing even touched him.
He was too fast, knowing how to fight without a single blow landing on his skin and he was not sad about that fact.
When he went down into the hold of the ship and heard Burk and Cole in one of the rooms trying to make someone drop a girl, Brooks felt his blood boil.
No one treated women that way. Not in his presence. As the man backed out of the room, Brooks held one of his guns to the man’s head, and before he knew it, a small female form was shoved into his arms, and he dropped his gun without another thought.
Cole lunged through the door and shot the man in the back, but Brooks was no longer focused on the man.
No, all his focus was on the woman in his arms. She was coughing, and gasping for air, and he tried to soothe her in any way he could.
He patted her back gently and when she looked up at him, with her big eyes in her small face, it was all he could do to not gasp out loud.
She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.
She was tiny, and skinny. As if she had not had a good meal in her entire life.
But that did not take away from her beauty. She had brown eyes, that were almost the color of gold and long light brown hair.
She had perfect pink lips. Shaped in a bow. And he wanted nothing more than to kiss those lips and that thought shocked him.
Never before had he wanted to kiss a woman, and he had seen many beautiful women in his life.
She finally stopped coughing and though she was still gasping for air, she held his forearms tightly.
“Thank you, sir. For catching me.” Her voice said and he blinked, trying desperately to say something.
She tried to stand but fell against his chest and he held her close.
“I apologize. I am still not good on my feet. But if you do not mind helping me, I would appreciate it. I know the girls are safe and I don’t really wish to stay on the ship any longer.”
Brooks nodded, “It is quite all right. May I?”
She looked up at him with her golden eyes and her face red. But she nodded.
And Brooks swung her into his arms.
And right then and there, he knew she was his. The woman he had waited to find all his life.
He just never expected her to be found in the middle of the ocean.
