Epilogue
Cabe
Northumberland, England April 1813
Cabe woke in the morning wanting nothing more than to go back to sleep.
Rose was snuggled against his side and he smiled as he pulled her closer and a small sigh came from her lips.
He loved being here. Out in the country, in bed with his wife and happy.
Relieved that he could finally just be. That he was able to live the life he longed for.
That for once he did not have to look over his shoulder and pray that his life was different.
Someday he would go back out to sea, but for now? He was quite happy being here.
And that was that. Rose stirred in his arms and blinked open her eyes, slowly.
She stretched like a kitten in the sun and it made him grin.
“Good morning my love. How did you sleep?”
She smiled at him, sleep still written all over her face. “Very well, at least once my husband let me sleep.”
He laughed, “I apologize. It seems you have woken something in me that won’t sleep now.”
She smiled, “Good, I quite like the man who loves me so well that it makes me fall asleep in moments.”
He wanted to puff out his chest, pride filling every inch of him.
“I love you Rose. Thank you for becoming my wife.”
Rose kissed his chest softly, “You are welcome. Thank you for coming back to me.”
He kissed her softly, and a knock sounded on their bedchamber door.
His eyebrows drew down, but he got up, pulled a pair of breeches over his legs and walked with his crutch to answer the door.
Aidan stood on the other side, “Good morning Cabe. Cole, Burk, Brooks, Jacob and I are going for a ride. Would you care to join us?”
Cabe grinned, “When?”
Aidan smiled back, “Now. We will get your horse ready if you wish.”
Cabe nodded, “Let me dress, and I will join you.”
Aidan nodded and walked away, and Cabe shut the door.
He walked quickly to the bed, where he strapped his prosthetic onto his leg, and pulled a shirt over his head.
Rose sat up in bed, her naked breasts swaying as she did so and Cabe had to jerk his eyes away from the tempting sight.
She pulled a blanket up over her curves and it saddened him but helped his purpose.
“You are going riding with my brothers and father?”
Cabe nodded, and she smiled. “Be safe. Please.”
