The barkeep handed him an envelope. It looked very much like the one he had found in his room.

He wanted to shudder but held it back. Knowing that he had found him after all.

Opening the letter with one hand, it read,

Captain,

How sad I am that I missed your visit to my humble accommodations. But alas, it was not our time yet to meet. It is coming though; can you feel it? I have heard about you asking all around London and the docks to find out my whereabouts. But I assure you Captain, you will not find me. No one is willing to give you the information that you seek. You may keep trying if you wish. Innocent people will die if you keep asking around. You will find me when I am ready to be found. Not a moment before nor will it be on your terms. But I do appreciate the chase you are giving me. It gives me a thrill that I have been searching for. And yet, while I love the chase, I am waiting for your death Captain. You will have wished that you had run when you had the chance. It would not have helped, but you would have lived longer. I thought I had warned you away from your woman, and you would have listened, but I should have known you were going to be obstinate. You still have not given heed to my advice. And I am afraid to say that that was a mistake Captain. I have seen you with those people. With the kind and innocent family that will pay for your mistakes. I will make them suffer if you do not do as I wish. It was a big mistake you made when you tried to intervene, tried to find me. Wanted to fight our battle too soon and wanted to do it your way. You are not ready for the battle we will wage. And now, because you wanted to be underhanded and try to find me when I do not want to be found, you will pay. You are not more powerful than me. Know this as fact. You have been watched for months. I know everything there is to know about you. And what an interesting time it has been. But one suggestion I will tell you, that you need to turn your efforts elsewhere. I am not in London to be found. I never have been. You should prepare yourself. And I am afraid to tell you, that you will have to leave those you love and come after me. Where I reign supreme. I want to finish this how it started. On the water, and the way it should have been. Come after me Captain if you dare. Meet me on the water. And I will spare all their lives if you do as I wish. Do not try to ask for their help or try to intervene in our war again. I will know.

The Renegade.

Cabe felt sick. He had to swallow hard and fight to breathe. He dreaded this. Had thought to never go back into the water and fight against the man again. The Renegade held the high ground there.

And he knew it would not end well. He looked up at the barkeeper and nodded, turning to leave and the man said, “I don’t know what he wrote to you, but I do know this. That man is as evil as they come. Do not lose your life over this. It isn’t worth it.”

Cabe nodded, “Thank you. I hope and pray for your sake he doesn’t come back here.”

The man agreed and Cabe turned and left. Not feeling the eyes on him as he did so.

He also didn’t hear the sound of the man’s death. The poor barkeeper never had a chance. The Renegade’s right-hand man had been waiting to make certain that Cabe got the letter.

He was not about to have the Renegade’s name tarnished. The people of the bar stared in stunned silence at the violence that occurred but said nothing. He wiped his blade on the dead man’s vest and walked out of the bar, whistling.

Knowing without a doubt that Cabe would find him on the water. And that thought made him smile.
