Rose

London, England Dec 1812

The day to go visit the Duchess had arrived and Rose still hadn’t been able to see Cabe.

She missed him. His kisses and the feel of his big strong arms around her.

She needed him, and she knew he had his issues, but she just wanted to see him.

Getting dressed and ready to go, Rose put a hand to her stomach to settle her nerves.

She had kept herself busy the last few days and had only seen a glance of him at one of the balls, lurking on the edge of the ballroom.

She had not danced with anyone at any of the functions she had attended. So, she could not figure out why he hadn’t even spoken to her.

She just wanted to be with him again in every way she could, to feel his hard body move with hers.

To become one with her again. Her eyes misted and she blinked them away.

Cabe was not the sort of man to tell her lies and to lead her on. But it was getting difficult that he kept so many things from her. Would not just tell her his secrets.

Could not just trust her enough. She pushed the thought away. Knowing that when he was ready, he would tell her. Just as her mother said, she needed patience and she would have to wait.

She walked down the stairs and saw Cole and Eden kissing. She cleared her throat, making Eden pull away from Cole and seeing her blush.

Rose smiled, loving that both of her brothers had finally found the happiness they had longed for.

Cole nodded to her and pulled Eden tight against him, regardless of her giving a small protest.

Rose said, “Is everyone ready to go? I am more nervous as the day goes on.”

Cole smiled, “Aidan is getting the carriages ready, Rhia is with mother who is helping her down the stairs.”

Rose turned and saw Lydia helping Rhia walk carefully down the staircase. Lydia had a hold of Rhia’s arm, and they took small measured steps.

Aidan walked in the front door, and Rose saw him tense. His entire body locked up with the force of it.

He took a step forward, but Cole stopped him. “You cannot do everything for her. Remember just months ago that Rhia did this all on her own.”

Aidan growled lightly, “I know she did. I just don’t want to see her hurt herself or our child if she fell.”

Cole smiled, “Mother has her well in hand, she will be fine. See?”

Rhia reached the bottom with Lydia and Aidan rushed to her side. “I told you I wouldn’t be but a moment.”

Rhia smiled up at him, “I know, but I can manage. As Cole said, I did all of this before you came along. And did it marvelously for years. I only fell down the stairs a few times. But I was fine. Truly. I rarely do that again and have learned how to walk down them carefully. Trust me Aidan, I would never do anything to harm myself or our babe.”

Aidan put his large hand over Rhia’s small stomach and kissed his wife. “I know love. I just worry.”

Rhia kissed him back and put her hand to his face, “Worry if you must, but if I need help, I will ask. All right?”

Aidan nodded and he looked around, “The carriages are ready.”

Rose smiled, “Thank you Aidan.”

They all walked out into the weak afternoon sunshine and Rose got into the carriage with her mother, Lily and Burk.

Lydia was nervous, Rose could see her wring her hands together over and over and that she sat stiffly beside her.
