Lily hugged her close, “Come on, we need to see what has happened. We need to help mother.”

Rose nodded, but never told her twin sister that she had already seen everything.

She took a deep breath, blinked a few times and found herself back in Penelope’s house once again.

She had thought the memories of Aidan’s wounding and almost death would have been gone for good.

She had not had any nightmares of that night for a while but hearing Lydia’s tale had brought them all rushing back to the surface.

Rose took a deep breath, and then another, needing to get herself under control and focus on the conversation at hand.

She looked around the room and was so grateful to be with her family.

They had survived when most would crumble under the weight of their secrets and pain.

Rose was proud of everyone.

Aidan for never losing faith, for Cole because he took on the responsibilities for Aidan when Aidan could not do them himself For Lily, for always being there for her. And for her mother, for being good, kind and wonderful even when life had been anything but easy.

Rose blinked away the moisture that filled her eyes. She had more people to be grateful for and as she looked around, seeing the new members of their family Rose smiled.

She was happy. And would be even if Cabe kept being an ass.

She would have her family. And right now, that was what mattered. Even though Lydia had told her to stay strong, she was struggling.

Everyone else had finally found their love, as had she, but hers was being difficult.

Forcing herself to listen to the conversation at hand again, and the plan to go to the courts with Penelope’s lawyers on their side, Rose was nervous, but excited.

She wanted it to work out for her mother and prayed it would.

Everyone stood to leave after a time, and Rose got back into the carriage with Lily and Burk.

Lydia wasn’t speaking, but it was a peaceful silence.

Rose grabbed Lydia’s hand and Lydia smiled. “Was speaking with the Duchess everything you needed it to be?”

Lydia nodded, “She has given me the most hope. I just want to find your father. To have him back in my life again. He is the one who stole my heart all those years ago and still holds it in his hands. I have missed him, the real him since he left me. And I long to be at his side once again.”

Rose leaned over and hugged her mother, “It will be fine. I just know it. He will come back to you.”

Lydia just hugged her back tightly and smiled. “I truly hope it is so. And I will keep that thought in my heart when we go in front of the judges in two days.”

Rose nodded and looked over to see Lily hugging Burk’s arm. “We have Penelope on our side, and her lawyers. I know it will be all right.”

Burk nodded his agreement with Lily and Rose was once again grateful with him and how wonderful he was to her sister.

They rode the rest of the way home in silence and when they exited the carriage the rest of the family went into Lydia’s sitting room and Lily disappeared with Burk.

Rose smiled and Cole came over to her as she walked in the door.

He tweaked a lock of her hair and she hugged her brother tightly. “What are you smiling about imp?”

Rose looked up at him, “I am just happy for all of you. That you have found the love you have all longed for.”

Cole kissed her forehead, “You have too.”

Rose shrugged, “I do love him. He just needs to admit it to himself that he loves me.”
