Cabe invited him into his training room and walked with his crutch over to a chair, gesturing for Brooks to take the other.
Brooks shook his head, “I only came because I need to know if you have seen Burk.”
Cabe looked in confusion at Brooks once again, “I haven’t. What is going on Brooks?”
Brooks cursed and ran his hands over his hair and then down his face, “Fuck! I didn’t want to believe it, and now I have no choice but to face it. Burk is missing. I think the man who shot him just days ago came back for more. Burk said he heard his attacker say that they would be back to finish him off. I am scared that is true.”
Cabe stood. Leaning on his crutch, “Let me dress and I will come with you. Maybe I can help.”
Brooks nodded and Cabe rushed as quickly as he could from the room, and up the stairs where he dressed and pulled his prosthetic on.
Once he was situated, Cabe walked quickly back down the stairs to find Brooks pacing in the foyer.
“I apologize for the wait. Come, I will get my horse and we can go.”
Brooks nodded, “I asked your butler to ready your horse. It is outside next to mine.”
Cabe nodded, grateful it would not take that much more time for him to ready his horse.
The two walked outside and rode to Cole’s townhouse.
Walking inside, the first thing Cabe saw was Lily. She was pale, and she looked as though she was going to cast her accounts all over the floor at any moment.
Her eyes were red rimmed and Cabe felt for her. He saw Rose trying to comfort her sister, but Lily was so far gone that she barely noticed.
Aidan and Cole came up beside them and they decided to each take a section of Whitechapel and the docks to search. Then they were to meet back here.

Searching for Burk all day with no one talking and knowing his whereabouts was hard on all of them.
Cabe hated going back to that house with no information to give Lily.
No one spoke after their failure and Lily cried. Sobbed that she just wanted him back. Needed him in her arms.
Cabe felt wretched and when he heard Lily ask Brooks to stay, to help them keep watch here Cabe decided to stay also.
In all the confusion and sadness no one noticed him as he slipped in one of the many rooms in the hallway.
There was no way he was going back to his own house when Burk was still missing. There was a dark feeling in the air tonight.
It hung like a cloud over the home and Cabe would keep watch over all of them.
Especially Rose.
