Cabe

London, England Dec 1812

Cabe walked the silent halls, not making a sound as he did so.

He did not want to stay in one room alone and as he checked every window and room, to make certain nothing would harm those sleeping, made him feel better.

A loud commotion from upstairs sounded and Cabe took off running in that direction.

He made it to the foyer just as a man threw something at Brooks and came flying down the stairs.

Cabe started running as well and tackled the man to the ground, punching the man over and over again until blood flew, and the man’s eyes rolled back into his head.

It was very dark, but Cabe could see how his body slumped and the white of his eyes as he was knocked unconscious.

Rolling the man to his back, Cabe took his cravat off and tied it around the man’s arms.

Everyone crowded around him as he yelled, “Go get someone from Scotland Yard!”

A footman took off into the night and when he came back with two burly men, their police uniforms showing who they were, Aidan and Cole went around lighting candles.

Cabe was still sitting on the man and as the officers got there, he rolled the man over and snarled.

He had seen the man before, he was an evil and shifty man and Cabe had seen him around the docks many times.

He listened to the officers speak with Aidan and when it was time, he hauled the man up off the floor and tied him to a chair.

Stepping back out of the way. When a bucket of cold water was thrown over Leroy’s face and he came to, Cabe wanted to punch the man again.

His sneering face and the words he spit at Brooks, made Cabe want to retch. When Brooks pulled a long-serrated knife out of his boot, stabbing Leroy in the leg and twisting his knife in the man’s muscle, Cabe felt a huge burst of satisfaction.

Brooks was a normally laid back and quiet sort of man, but when someone he loved was in danger?

He turned into the man crowds from all over London and the East end knew him as. The Angel’s King.

He was ruthless when he fought and Cabe knew he had earned his title over and over again. As had Burk.

Cabe stepped in, stopping Brooks from doing more to the man with his knife. He had made his point but it hit Cabe that he knew exactly where Leroy lived.

“Brooks, wait. I think I know where he lives. I knew he looked familiar and seeing him in the light, I know exactly who he is and where he lives.”

Brooks turned to him with a look on his face that Cabe would have never thought he could possess. He could see the menace and revenge in Brooks’ eyes.

Brooks waved his dagger at him. It dripped with Leroy’s blood and he said, “You will tell me now.”

Cabe nodded, “Get a fucking shirt on, it’s freezing out. You will need it where we are going.”

Brooks walked from the room and returned moments later, slipping the shirt over his head. “There, happy?”

Cabe shook his head again, “Do you want a coat?”

Brooks growled at him and he walked over to the coat rack and raised his eyebrow, “I am going to find my brother, so tell me what I need to know now.” He raised an eyebrow and Cabe sighed. When he did not answer soon enough, Brooks snarled at him, “I will be getting my horse ready. Anyone else is welcome to join me.”

He put his coat on and walked from the room, Cabe on his heels.

Brooks was going to get himself killed like this. He was too close to this and while Cabe understood it, he did not want any harm to come to Brooks, so he hurried to saddle his horse.

He hurried back inside to find out who was coming, when Lily walked down the stairs, wearing breeches and ready to go.
