Rose
London England, Dec 1812
Rose, Lydia and Eden were pacing in the sitting room when they heard the carriage and the sound of horses outside the house.
They looked at each other with trepidation and hurried from the room.
They rushed down the front steps and when Burk was pulled from the carriage, she heard Eden cry out.
She felt so awful for Lily and Eden. She knew how much it hurt her, to see Burk in so much pain. She could only imagine how her sister and his sister were feeling.
His face was beaten so badly, she barely recognized him, and he was dripping with blood and water as they carried him up the stairs.
Lydia immediately got started telling everyone to get what she needed.
Rose was told to get Lydia’s large shears because they needed to cut Burk’s clothes from him.
She heard Lydia tell Cabe that she needed him to help take Burk’s boots off.
She wanted to run into his arms but needed to do her mother’s bidding. She quickly found the shears and brought them to Lydia. Then she left the room.
Rose had seen that both Brooks and Cabe were wet and covered in Burk’s blood.
She rushed to Aidan’s and Cole’s rooms and grabbed a few things, and then went to the kitchen asking for a tray for them and for Lily.
She gave the clothes to Aidan who smiled, not caring that they were his and Cole’s clothes. And he kissed her cheek softly.
She walked away, needing a moment before she went to check on everything.
She hurried to her bedchamber and locked the door, sliding down the wood until she hit the floor and she wrapped her arms around her legs.
She put her head down on them and started to cry. Seeing the men leave like they had, knowing they could possibly find Burk, alive or not. Lily, at their side. Was the most nerve-wracking thing she had endured.
Hoping and praying that Burk yet lived, that Cabe would come back to her with no injuries.
She hated seeing Burk so injured. She did not have a problem with blood or anything of that nature, as she was used to that. It was simply that he was like her own brother and seeing his face so injured and his blood flowing freely from multiple cuts on his body was really difficult for her.
It felt about the same as when she had seen Aidan with his back ripped apart from her father’s whip and his face sliced open from Edward’s blade.
Rose bit her lip hard and looked up and around her room. She felt the tears still sliding down her face and needed to get herself together. This helped no one.
She took a deep breath and then another. Then she stood on trembling legs and threw some water on her face.
She would go spend some time with Jacob. He was with Rhia, but she loved being with him and he would calm her down.
She walked toward her parent’s bedchamber and after knocking, she heard Rhia’s soft voice call for her to enter.
When Rose walked inside, Rhia was sitting in a chair beside Jacob’s bedside and was reading a book.
Jacob was sleeping but stirred, and then opened his eyes. He smiled at her and Rose leaned down and kissed his forehead.
Rhia touched Rose’s hand, “Is Burk all right? Cole said they found him, but nothing of his condition. I am so worried about Burk. Cole checked on us just moments ago but left with no additional information. I think he wants to be with Eden. You could tell from his eyes that he needed to hold his wife. Have you seen Aidan? Is he all right?”
Rose hugged Rhia, “Burk is very injured, but it’s nothing that Lydia and Lily can’t handle. I knew Cole would want to be with Eden as well. Aidan is still helping them with Burk. But I’m certain he will be here before you know it.”
Rhia gave a faint smile and Jacob spoke softly, “I know Lydia can work wonders. She certainly has with me. But I am terribly saddened by the news that he is injured so badly. I am glad Aidan is there helping him.”
Rose sat on the edge of Jacob’s bed, and held his hand. “Thank you, father. I am certain that he will make a full recovery. I just hate that Lily has suffered from this as well.”
