Rhia nodded, “All right. Let us go.”
Rose watched Rhia slide off the window seat and when Rhia was certain she was steady, Rose walked alongside Rhia, not helping, just watching and certainly enough, Rhia made it up the stairs with no assistance at all.
Rose smiled and the two walked back to Jacob’s room where he greeted them with a smile.
“Rhia, Rose. I am so glad to see you made up.”
Rose laughed, “We certainly have.”
The door opened and Aidan walked in the room, “You certainly have what?”
Rose looked at Rhia, and Rhia nodded, “We made up.”
Aidan looked down at both of them in confusion and Jacob spoke up, “You see Aidan, Rose decided to question whether Rhia knew how to take care of herself. Everyone seems to have forgotten the past that Rhia has. That she knows how to do everything on her own despite her leg.”
Aidan’s eyebrows rose, and he looked down at Rhia, shock on his face. “Rhia, I apologize. I know you have tried to tell me that you are able to do everything, I just worry. I don’t want you to ever have to hurt yourself or fall like you have in the past.”
Rose watched Rhia’s eyes soften. She reached up and cupped Aidan’s scarred cheek in her palm, “I know Aidan. I know that you want to protect me but falling is part of life for me. It is something I have lived with for a long time and I have gotten used to it. I do not want you to ever think I cannot do something because I can. I have for a very long time.”
Aidan turned his head and kissed Rhia’s palm. “I know you have. And we have spoken of this before, but I still worry. I just want you to be happy and know that I am always here to help you. But I will try harder to not constantly hover over you.”
Rhia smiled and hugged Aidan tightly, and Aidan kissed the top of her head. His eyes shut tight as he held his wife close.
Rhia looked up at him, “Is Burk all right?”
Aidan smiled and kissed Rhia softly, “Yes he is. He will live, but he has many injuries that we had no idea he had until he was undressed. It is good we found him when we did.”
Rhia shuddered and Rose did too. She walked to Jacob’s side and Jacob held her hand tightly.
Aidan pulled Rhia over to a chair and placed her in his lap as he kept speaking, “Mother and Lily cleaned his wounds the best they could and gave him some medicine. I hope he won’t get sick from this.”
Rose did too. Burk had been through a lot these last few weeks and it was not fair. They all had been through a lot and she knew they were not done.
Not with Cabe still keeping things from her. She needed to find them out, so she could have some peace of mind.
Lydia walked in the door and smiled when she saw everyone. She was covered in blood, water and whiskey.
Rose called for a bath and everyone left the couple to let Lydia bathe.
She hugged her mother close and thanked her.
