Cabe

London, England Dec 1812

Cabe woke with a smile on his face for the first time in an exceptionally long time.

Reaching for Rose, he came up empty handed, and the sheets were cold where her body had been. Sitting up, Cabe looked around his bedchamber to find her gone.

All her clothes were gone, and Cabe cursed. She had left before had awoken and that bothered him to no end.

He did not know when she left, if she made it safely home, or anything.

He sat in his bed, his head in his hands. How could he sleep so soundly?

Cabe knew the damn reason, but he hated that she could be hurt.

Getting off his bed, Cabe looked for his prosthetic, and walked with his crutch slowly over to get it.

He held onto his bed, and before he could make it, he looked back at his sheets.

He loved how rumpled they were. How they smelled of her. And their love making.

It was one of his new favorite scents. Cabe made it to where he prosthetic lay and bent down to pick it up.

He noticed that Rose had left her handkerchief on the floor, and he grabbed it.

Holding it to his chest, Cabe went to the bell pull and asked for a bath.

He hated washing Rose’s scent from him, along with their passion, but he had to check in with Nathaniel today, and he did not want to have anyone smell Rose’s pleasure on him. That was for his nose alone. And be ready for anything tonight.

He also was not certain if Rose was going anywhere, but he had to check.

He needed to speak to Aidan and ask his permission to marry her.

After he found the Renegade, Cabe was going to put his child inside her, and his ring on her finger.

The first one could come later, but he knew he wanted everyone to know she was his.

Cabe bathed and dressed, and left his house, riding his horse to go see Aidan.

When he got to their townhouse, Aidan answered the door himself.

It was still rather jarring to see the Duke doing such menial things, but Cabe liked it.

Aidan had a frustrated look on his face, but Cabe did not think it was directed at himself. Or so he hoped anyway.

Aidan led him into his office and had him take a seat, which Cabe did so. And watched as Aidan shook his head, as if to clear his thoughts.

“I apologize Cabe if I seem distracted. It is not my nature to be so distracted, but Rhia has been telling me that she is capable of doing things on her own and it is hard for me to let my protectiveness of her go. She is my world now and I don’t want anything to harm her in any way.”

Cabe nodded, “That is understandable Aidan. It is all right. Is there anything I can help you with? I can come back if this isn’t the best time.”

Cabe went to stand, and Aidan waved him to stay seated. “It’s fine. Truly. I don’t think this is something you can help with.”

Aidan sighed and ran his hand over his face, “I know I am overprotective. I just do not know how to stop it. Rhia is the first person and only person I have loved this way. Not like my sisters or my mother. She is my everything as I said, and I worry about her every minute. For instance, if her leg will trouble her, or if she will fall and hurt herself or our child in the process.”

Aidan looked over at Cabe. “I apologize. I should not speak so. It isn’t anyone’s trouble but my own.”

Cabe smiled, “Aidan, it is fine. I understand. I do. I worry all the time about Rose, as well. It is what we do. Worry about our women. The fact that you worry about your woman says a lot about you. From what I know about Rhiannon, is that she was very independent. You have to remember that. She would never do anything to hurt herself or your child. This I know. Trust her to take care of herself. Even though you want to do everything for her. She can do it Aidan.”
