Threatening to kill Rose or a member of someone Cabe considered to be his family, had snapped something inside him and he could take it no longer.
The time for war had come. And Cabe knew it was the right and only choice he could make.
As he felt the water slipping past his ship and the shores of England getting smaller in the distance, Cabe felt a sort of freedom.
He was not Lord Cabe James anymore. No, out here, he was the Captain, the ruler of this vessel. One that took no shit from anyone.
He would lead these men into what he could only hope was victory and he was going to be proud of that.
Shedding the man he used to be, and becoming the man he was now, Cabe took his cravat off, letting the fabric sail somewhere off the ship. As he stood at the helm, he became once again Captain James, leader of men.
Standing a little taller, Cabe kept the wheel steady for the horizon, checking his compass and keeping a keen eye on everything that was going on around his ship.
When it was time, he and Nathaniel would train the men over and over in the ways of fighting and warfare. Grateful that Nathaniel had spent his months training with Burk and Brooks. And knowing his crew would be in good hands because of it.
And he would go over the plans he had for battle with Nathaniel and their men.
The Renegades’ man had not been able to find those, Cabe knew for certain. He had hidden them well and knew if anyone had gone in that room. Which they had not.
And with the plan he had in his mind, Cabe knew they would be triumphant.
Calling out orders and making certain everything was how it should be, Cabe watched the men climb over the rigging, saw the eagle-eyed men in the crow’s nest and smiled.
