Lydia stood, “May I call a bath for you and some food? You must be hungry.”
Rose nodded and stood on shaking legs. “Thank you, mother. I would like that. I am hungry.”
Lydia pulled the cord and when a maid knocked on the door, Lydia gave her the instructions and turned to Rose.
“Get dressed after your bath. Jacob has been worried about you. As have everyone else. Lily especially. We need to tell them what happened.”
Rose nodded and Lydia gave her one last smile and left.
Rose bathed after the water came and ate quickly. After speaking with her mother, she knew Lydia was right.
Knew Cabe was doing this for a reason and she needed to be strong. Could not wallow in her misery about his absence.
Yes, it hurt that he was gone. But she knew he was an excellent captain with an excellent crew.
The last time he had been caught unaware and she knew this time he would be vigilant.
He would come back to her. She could feel it.
Pulling her clothes on, Rose pulled her hair up into a loose chignon and walked out of the room.
Her head held high. Needing to be strong for him, and for their love. He was, she needed to be as well.
Walking to her parent’s suite, Rose knocked on the door and it opened almost immediately with Cole standing on the other side of the door.
He pulled her into a tight hug, and she hugged him back. She felt him kiss her forehead and she sighed.
She loved her dear brothers, and it made her so happy that he was still so sweet to her.
He led her into the room, where surprisingly everyone else was. She was hugged by everyone in the room and Rose loved their support.
She told them all about Cabe and his absence and why he was gone.
Not going into a lot of details about who he was chasing, but it was hard, nonetheless.
Everyone listened, and she knew that Burk must have known because nothing she said moved him an inch.
He was stoic as he listened to her speak and when she was done, and everyone told her the same thing, that Cabe was a good man, a good Captain, and she needed to trust him to do all he could to survive, she wanted to cry again.
She knew her family loved him, and this proved it.
Taking their advice to heart, Rose walked out of the room and went to pack her belongings.
They would be going back to the country in the morning and she was happy to go back home.
She made certain Cabe’s letter was next to her heart and that the cravat he must have left was tucked away also.
She needed his presence next to her heart.
She slept without dreams that night and in the morning, she climbed in the first carriage, happy and excited to be going back home.
To spend Christmas with the family and to have the new additions there.
As they rode, Rose, Lydia, Jacob and Aidan and Rhia all talked and laughed.
Rose loved being with her family and hearing their happiness.
It was wonderful. They would be getting ready for Lily and Burk’s wedding when they got there, and Rose was so happy for her sister.
