She had not heard them come in, but everyone was sitting throughout the music room and was smiling at her.

Lydia had tears in her eyes, as did Jacob and Rose blushed and looked down.

“No, Rose. Do not do that. Do not hide your face. The song was beautiful, as is your voice.”

Rose looked up and Lydia was standing next to the piano with Jacob at her side.

Jacob smiled down at her and Rose gave him one in return.

“I didn’t know you played so beautifully Rose.”

Rose let out a small breath, “Thank you father.”

He leaned down and kissed her forehead. “Will you play some more for us?”

Rose looked around the room and everyone nodded, “I thought everyone was busy?”

Lydia gave a small laugh, “Not too busy to listen to you play. It has been an exceptionally long time.”

Rose nodded, beaming at her family and started playing another song.

Then another. She played several more before it was time to get ready for the dinner at their grandparent’s house and everyone came up and hugged Rose.

Aidan came over and hugged her, “I know mother said it earlier, but I didn’t realize how much I missed your music. It feels like the old times before our lives all changed for the better. Thank you Rose.”

Her eyes misted, “You are welcome Aidan. I promise I will play more. I have missed it as well. It helped me more than I knew.”

He kissed her cheek softly, “I know you are staying strong with Cabe gone, and I am proud of you. We will always be here for you.”

They all left together to go to their grandparents’ home for dinner and Rose felt happy.

Sitting in the carriage next to Lily and Burk was not as easy. They were wrapped up in each other and Rose looked out the window when Burk pressed soft kisses to Lily’s mouth.

It had only been days since they had wed, and the new year was steadily approaching.

It was hard for Rose. But she was happy. She was determined to be happy.

Lily giggled and Rose fought not to look at her sister, and her brother by law.

Lily cleared her throat, “I apologize Rose, we forget there are others about.”

Rose glanced over at her sister, “It’s all right Lily. Truly it is. Kissing your husband and loving him is a good thing and I am happy for you both.”

Burk was watching her with his amber colored eyes and then he smiled. “Thank you Rose. It means the world to us.”

He cleared his throat and when Rose looked at Burk, and his face held a note of trepidation.

“Cabe sent Brooks and I a letter before he left. Asking us to keep an eye on you.”

Rose swallowed hard and nodded, “I bet he did. He was worried about the man he was going to find.”

Burk nodded, “I just wanted to let you know that he loves you Rose. He has from the start.”

Rose looked down at her hands. “I know he does. He told me before he left. But I appreciate you passing along his sentiments. I am so worried about him. For him.”

She looked up and Burk was nodding. “I know you are. It is scary and he doesn’t have high hopes he will return. But I must keep my faith in him until I hear otherwise. Just know that I will do everything in my power, as will Brooks to keep you safe from harm.”

Rose nodded again and did not say anything. The carriage pulled up in front of the house and Rose looked up at it.
