She stopped when she heard a soft noise coming from the ballroom. It sounded like someone humming.

Rose could see well enough in the hallway without her candle, so she blew it out and she walked quietly to the ballroom.

Peeking her head around the door, she was stunned when she saw Aidan and Rhia in the middle of the dance floor. Aidan was humming the hum to a waltz to Rhia as he held her in his arms.

They were dancing slowly, not really moving their feet and Rose watched as Aidan reached down and rubbed Rhia’s growing stomach with reverence on his face.

Rhia was smiling up at Aidan and Rose could see the love written all over Rhia’s face, that Rose felt her eyes prick.

This moment between her brother and his wife was the sweetest one she had ever seen.

Aidan kept humming and led Rhia slowly through the rest of the waltz. It was then that Rose noticed then that Rhia was in her nightgown, and Aidan was in nothing but breeches.

She blushed and hated that she had intruded on their moment. But she could not help it. She had never seen Aidan act like this before and seeing how he loved his wife? And how she loved him in return? It was like something out of a story she had read once. One that made her once long for love like what Aidan and Rhia shared.

She knew she had found it with Cabe. She let out a quiet sigh and smiled as she looked in on her brother.

She watched as Aidan leaned down and kissed Rhia’s mouth softly, his hand going from her stomach to wind in her loose hair and Rose backed away slowly and went back up to her room.

Seeing their love only made her long for Cabe that much more.

She needed him more than she needed her next breath, and now that she was going to have his child, she wished more than ever that he was here.

She walked to her window and looked out at the darkness. Holding a hand to the glass, Rose cried as she said her prayer one more time that he would be safe and return to her unharmed.

She put a hand to her stomach. She wished that Cabe could be here to see her grow with his child and hoped he would come back to her soon.

She wanted a lifetime of moments like the one that Aidan and Rhia had. Ones full of love and hope.

Rose loved Rhia. She was so grateful to her. She knew it hadn’t been Rhia’s choice to get caught in that storm, but Rose believed that fate had intervened and had brought Rhia to Aidan. She had made Aidan finally see that he was deserving of love.

That he could be loved and that there was someone out there who would see past his scars and see the man he was.

For Rhia to do that made Rose love her even more.

Sighing, Rose walked away from the window and went back to bed. Thinking once again about Cabe. He was never far from her mind.

She had only slept one night in Cabe’s arms, but it was enough that it was difficult to do so now without him.

She shut her eyes and took a deep breath. Trying to make her mind stop going in a hundred different directions.

She sent up one last prayer for Cabe and his safety and dreamed about him, his arms wrapped around her and whispering words of love for her in her ear.
