Case sighed and Cabe knew he wasn’t thrilled to be back in London, but as soon as he got Rose, they would be leaving for a while.
Cabe walked in the doors and his butler hurried to his side, “My lord. Oh, I am so happy you have returned to us. Safe and sound.”
Cabe smiled, “Thank you. I am also relieved to be back home. I have been away for far too long. And after this voyage I have brought my family back home. Where they also belong.”
His butler turned to the door and Case, Emily and Margaret walked in the door and his butler hurried over to them.
“My lord, and my ladies. Welcome home! I am so happy to see you again.”
Case clapped the man on the back, “Thank you! We are happy to be here.”
“I will help with your trunks. If you would like me to call for some tea, or dinner, I will certainly do that.”
Case shook his head, “I know that Cabe will only be here for a short time tonight, but after we get situated, we would all love dinner. Thank you.”
Cabe smiled and hurried to change his clothes. He needed a bath and to check his arm. It was healing nicely, and he hadn’t had an issue with it, but it was still tender.
He called for a bath and as he waited for the water, Cabe got everything he needed to go see Rose.
He would go to Cole’s townhouse first and see if she was there, but he had a feeling she might not be, but if he needed to, he would ride to Northumberland to see his woman.
Bathing and dressing, Cabe hurried back downstairs and his butler called to him, “My lord, I had your horse saddled. Be safe.”
Cabe nodded, “Thank you. I will be back as soon as I can.”
He walked out the door and his horse was being held by a stable hand.
Cabe swung up into the saddle and rode the short distance to Cole’s townhouse, which had all the lights burning in the windows.
It seemed unusual, but it was not his house, so he didn’t know what was usual or not.
Walking up the steps, he knocked on the front door and Cole’s butler opened it.
“My lord! You have returned! I wish I could tell you that the family is at home, but they are out for the evening and now is not a good time. I apologize.”
Cabe raised an eyebrow, “May I ask what is wrong?”
The man looked frazzled and upset, and Cabe just noticed that his hair stood on end and that his eyes never fully landed on him.
Cabe felt the hairs raise on his neck, and the man let out a small quiet sigh.
“I hate to be the one to inform you that Cole’s sister has gone missing and that he and his wife have been out searching for her.”
Cabe felt the blood drain from his face, and he swallowed, hard. “Which sister?”
The man shut his eyes and Cabe did not need to hear the conformation.
“Rose, she came to visit my lord and my lady just three days ago. But two nights ago, she was taken from her bed.”
Cabe swayed in his spot, black spots dancing before his eyes and he felt as though he could hear water rushing in his ears.
“My lord? Are you all right? Do I need to call for a doctor?”
Cabe shook his head, and took a deep breath, and then another. He was getting ready to speak when the door opened and Cole walked inside, his hair was disheveled around his shoulders and he was leading Eden in the house, not noticing him standing in the foyer.
“We will go back out after you eat. You need to keep up your strength. Especially for our child. Please Eden. You need to rest, and this stress isn’t good for either of you.”
Eden’s eyes widened when she saw him, and Cole looked over when she saw her gaze land on him.
