She bit her lip, not wanting to hear this. “But you see, Cabe, my oh my. He is the strongest person I have seen. He never cried out, never made a noise as we all tortured him. Not once. And it made me want to do more and more to him. So, we did.”

She gasped again, fighting hard to keep the tears at bay for Cabe and the pain he went through, and he smiled.

“You see, having him on our ship for those weeks, was a delight we never knew we needed. It was better than fucking. The high of the screams and the pain. The taste of their fear. It was what our crew lived for. Nothing could beat it. And often our crew would rather find new victims to torture instead of fucking some snatch. But he would never let us have that scream. Not once. My Captain needed it from him, but he never caved. And then he was saved. That would not do. Not for my Captain. It wasn’t allowed.”

He tsked, and shook his head, and Rose felt as if she would be sick to her stomach listening to his revelations.

“We have all wanted nothing more than to get our revenge, my Captain more so than anyone else. And, I have wanted nothing more than to get his pain. And I will have it. I will take over for my Captain. I long for the screams, as much as he did, and I know exactly how I want to get my revenge for taking my Captain and my crew away from me. So, now we wait. You will be beautiful to watch and when I get your first scream, it will be the music I need in my life right now. My Captain and I do love that Cabe lost his leg because of the battle. It makes me realize that not all of our hard work was in vain.”

Rose shut her eyes. She did not want to hear anymore. He grabbed her face and licked her cheek. “You don’t get to turn away from me. Ever.”

Her eyes opened and she looked at him. “There you go. That wasn’t so hard.”

She glared at him, wishing he would leave her be and go back to his seat far away from her.

“How will Cabe even know where we are?”

He smirked at her, “Ah, he will know. As soon as his ship was left alone, I brought you here. He will know exactly where to find you. Do not you worry my little lamb. He will be here. Because he knows it is your life, or his.”

He lay back on the bed again and shut his eyes. “Now we wait. You are safe until then.”

She sat back in the chair. Her mind raced. She needed to protect her baby from this man at all costs.

He would not touch her. She could only pray that Cabe got here in time. That he would save her.

* * *

They heard a noise and Rose sat as still as possible. Waiting with bated breath as the door to his cabin turned and Cabe walked in the room and froze as he saw her on the chair.

He went to rush to her side when they heard a gun cock. He went completely still again and turned to see the man climb off his bed and walk toward him.

“Lucius.” slipped from Cabe’s lips on a growl.

Lucius smirked at Cabe, “Well, this is such a wonderful surprise. I thought we would have much longer to wait. But here you are. We can finally get started.”

Cabe took a step toward Lucius and the man held the gun out, “Ah, ah. You know what I can do with this. I took one of your crew members out with one shot. Or do you need another reminder?”

Cabe stopped moving, “I am here now, you need to let her go.”

Cabe gestured to Rose, and Lucius smiled. “I never agreed to that. Not really. I thought you knew that. You had to have known I would not just let her go. Not so easily Cabe. She is here for me. I am going to get her screams. Since you never gave me yours, hers will have to suffice. I think they will be that much sweeter since you will have to watch.”

Cabe bunched his hands into fists. “You will not touch a hair on her head. You said in the letter that it was my life or hers, I am here now. Let her go.”

Lucius laughed, “I hold the high ground here, and you think to threaten me?”

Cabe looked dead into Lucius’ eyes, “I dare much. You will not touch her unless I am dead. And you and I both know you won’t kill me slowly.”

Lucius’ mouth pulled back into a snarl. “Are you so certain about that?”

Cabe nodded, “You need something from me that I won’t give. I didn’t give it to him, I won’t give it to you either.”

Lucius snarl turned deadly. And Cabe pushed on. “You know nothing about me. I would die for that woman, and I will not hesitate to do whatever it takes to keep her safe. Especially from you. How is your crew?”

Lucius stopped and stared at Cabe. His eyes narrowed, “So you did hurt my crew? And my Captain?”

Cabe shook his head, “Oh no. I didn’t hurt them. My crew and I killed each and every one of them. Your ‘Captain’ thought to threaten me, so I hunted your crew down, and they along with your dear Captain are dead. And the ship sank in the depths of the sea.”

Lucius froze, “Well, I can always make another crew. After you are dead, there will be no one in my way to stop me from becoming the new Renegade. His legacy will live on through me.”
