Cabe put his forehead to hers, “I know. But if I had been here or gotten home sooner or had known he was here then I could have stopped it.”
Rose shook her head, “You had no way of knowing Cabe. I do not blame you. I never have. I just cannot believe you came for me. That you were willing to exchange your life for mine. Cabe, I told you that I’m not…”
Cabe kissed her. “And I believe I told you Rose that if you ever tried to say that you weren’t worth it that it would not end well.”
She looked up at him with wide eyes as he rolled her to her back, “But Cabe,”
He shook his head, “No Rose, I warned you. You do not ever get to speak about yourself that way. You are my woman, and you are too precious and perfect to me to have you speak like that. You are the love of my life and I have missed you every minute of each day that I did not see your beautiful face. All I wanted to do was get home to hold you, make love to you. Marry you.”
Rose’s eyes were wide as he spoke and he reached in his pocket where he held her handkerchief, the paper with their first love-making on it, a picture of her face that was drawn with charcoal and a small box with her ring.
Pulling it out, Cabe flicked open the box and showed her. The ring was beautiful. It had a large oval opal in the middle and diamonds on either side of it as well as circling the entire band.
Rose gasped and he nodded, “Yes, I want to marry you. Make you my wife. Officially. You have been in my eyes since I made you mine that night. But I want to show you are mine in front of the eyes of the ton.”
Rose nodded, “Yes! Yes, I will marry you Cabe. I love you.”
Cabe grinned, and put the ring on her finger, then he kissed her. “I love you too Rose.”
He looked down at their clothes, “I think you and I both have too many clothes on right now.”
Rose blushed and looked down, “Oh really?”
Cabe smirked, “Really.”
