He spoke to them briefly and within just moments, asked them if they wanted this union and agreed to be wed.
Brooks' strong voice said, “I do.” And it made her smile, and she also said, “I do.”
Then he was kissing her. His mouth was a haven. A safe place amongst the storm of her life and she got lost in his kiss.
Cabe cleared his throat again and Brooks pulled back from her, making her groan in sadness.
Brooks chuckled and pulled her into his side. “I didn’t get to pronounce you man and wife. But I guess I didn’t need to.”
She laughed softly and Cabe turned his smile on her once again, “Congratulations you two. I am happy for you. I told Brooks that this cabin is yours for the duration of our journey home.”
She blushed and buried her face in Brooks’ chest. His warm chuckle once again sounded in her ear and moved her body, as she was practically wrapped around him.
“Thank you Cabe. For everything.” he said, and she didn’t see Cabe, but he said, “You are welcome.”
Then the door opened and shut once again.
Looking up at Brooks’ face to see what was going on, she saw that they were completely alone.
Brooks was looking down at her and his blue eyes were filled with heat and love.
Cupping her face again with one hand, he gently moved her so she was standing alone.
“Let me lock the door.”
She swallowed hard and nodded.
When he came back to where she was still standing, he took her hands in his and she noticed she was shaking.
He kissed both her hands, “Are you nervous?”
She nodded, “I do not wish to be, but I do not know what I am doing.”
He kissed her palm, “I do not either. You know this. If all you want to happen tonight is to sit and talk, we will.”
She bit her lip, “I do not want to wait. But will you kiss me first?”
He smiled, “Of course. That is a request I will gratefully comply with. You are my wife now.”
He leaned down and kissed her softly, and then he pulled back. He looked like he was unsure, and she must have looked the same.
He rubbed the back of his neck, “I, um, I, I do not know what to do to make you comfortable. You are the only woman I have ever kissed.”
She shook her head, and he said, “I just do not want to rush you, or have you wish that you didn’t marry me.”
She hurried to him as fast as she could, “I do not regret this. I promise. This decision was the easiest one I have ever made. Why don't we sit and talk for a minute?”
Brooks nodded and he led her to the bed, sitting on the side with her.
“When we spoke earlier, and I told you my worries about my parents. They are still fresh. They will do their best to take me from you. And then where would we be?”
Brooks stood, “I will not let that happen Persephone. You are my wife now. After we consummate our marriage, they will not be able to take you from me. No matter what they try to do. I will not let it happen. I know this is your worry, and I understand it. I just have never had anything in my life like this. Aside from my salon, and my brother, I have been alone. I will not let them take the happiness from me that I finally found in you.”
She stood, “Then make me yours. So no one can take me from you. So that I know and you know I am yours.”
Brooks nodded and then took her mouth in a hard kiss.
