The carriage came to a stop and Aidan stood at the top of the steps and grinned down at them.

Brooks set her gently on the seat and then got out of the carriage and helped Charlotte down and then reached in and held her in his arms.

Secure and safe. She loved being in his strong arms.

He walked up to where Aidan stood, and Aidan leaned in and kissed her cheek.

“You made it just in time. Rhia has been having back pains all day.”

Persephone grinned, “Truly? Oh Aidan. I am so happy for you both. You are to be a father.”

Aidan grinned and chuckled, “I am trying to keep calm. It hasn’t worked well but seeing your carriages has been a help. Come, let’s get you situated in your rooms and I am certain she would love to see you. She has worried so about you.”

Aidan looked at Charlotte, “And she has longed to meet you.”

Charlotte smiled, “Thank you, your grace.”

Aidan shook his head, “I see someone told you.”

He laughed, “I am just Aidan, and my wife is Rhia. We are not formal here, please. Call me Aidan.”

Charlotte shook her head and looked at Persephone, “You tried to tell me. I did not believe you. Every single person I have ever met that was gentry demanded to be called as such.”

Aidan laughed hard at that, “You will soon come to find that I am not that man.”

Charlotte shook her head, “Well I have never in my life heard of this, but I love it.”

Aidan took her arm and then led her in the house, “My mother has prepared some lovely rooms for you. She is also pleased and has longed to meet you.”

Charlotte laughed and Brooks followed Aidan up the stairs and to the room they had before.

They certainly loved it here, either in this room or in their small cottage. It was home to them.

Although, Brooks' flat was also home.

It was freeing and calm here and she wanted nothing more than to see Rhia.

Brooks gently set her on her feet. “Are you ready love? Can you make it that far?”

She nodded, “Of course. I long to see her. She is such a dear friend to me and to know how she has worried over my disappearance worries me. I want to see her.”

Aidan appeared and Charlotte was with him. He smiled at her, “Are you ready? I am certain Rhia has been wringing her hands in anxiousness.”

Persephone laughed, knowing Rhia was not the sort to sit and wring her hands.

Aidan chuckled, and he led them to their rooms down a long hallway.

They were set off a little way from everyone else, and Persephone loved the feel of the wing.

When Aidan gave a soft knock and then opened the door, he stood back to let Persephone walk past him.

Rhia was walking around the room, her stomach had dropped, and she was holding it, and breathing hard through her teeth.

Aidan hurried to her side, “Are you well?”

She nodded, and when the contraction had passed, she let out a small breath, “I am well. Just another contraction. Seems our child wishes to be born today.”

Aidan’s eyes lit up, “Truly? I thought you were simply having back pains?”
