Cabe shook his head, “I haven’t. But I know she is out there. And I have seen the pain that my brother is causing because of the way he acts. He has a different woman every night and our father would have been so disappointed in him. He told us to not give to someone else what we would not want them to give either. But Case is taking his death hard.”
Cabe shook his head, “So I know what I want. And I will wait for her. Even if it takes a long time.”
Nathaniel had nodded, “I feel the same. I want to find my girl, but she has made it impossible to do so.”
Cabe laughed, “I know you will do it. I just know it.”
Nathaniel had nodded and then they had been captured.
The torture and pain was like nothing they had warned anyone of.
It was something you could not prepare for and every day was something new.
He had been put through as much as Cabe had, and though he had screamed a few times, had tried valiantly to stay quiet.
The time they got him was when he had been branded with a hot iron.
It was not any particular brand, but they had stuck it in the meat of his shoulder, and he had screamed at the pain of it.
And then he had gotten an infection because of the dirt and filth that had happened in the brig of their ship.
But yet, when they had been rescued, he fought as much as he could.
And when Cabe had been thrown off the ship in an explosion, it was more than he could imagine.
He watched his best friend’s leg get cut off right in front of his eyes and had to hold him down as it happened.
It was the worst thing he had ever imagined and for the next few weeks as he and Cabe, along with the men of their crew fought for their lives, it was something he never wanted to relive.
None of it was, and yet it seemed as if it was on a constant loop.
Cabe had finally come to London after all these months and they had gone after the Renegade.
It was freeing to know they were all gone and would not haunt the seas anymore like wraiths.
It haunted him though. The torture and pain kept him awake at nights and his shoulder burned still as if it was getting poked with the hot iron again.
Nothing he did could stop it, and when Cabe had gone after Rose and they had wed, he was happy for them.
And they had come for him. Wanting him to visit them in the country which he did.
He was more than happy to leave his sad flat and move.
His family had him visit a lot, but the nights were rough, and he did not want anyone to see that.
As he had gotten to the country things had happened and he had gone for long rides to clear his head.
And then one morning at breakfast, there she was.
The girl he had loved since they were small. And had yet to find out what love was.
But he knew she was it nonetheless.
She looked up and saw him, and he dropped his fork on the plate, making everyone in the room go silent.
She gasped out his name like a question or a prayer and he was rounding the table in the next space of breath.
Then he was kissing her. Something he had dreamed of doing since they were small.
