So they let her go, with her agreement that she would wed the man they chose for her when she returned. She knew it would be the only chance she had to see how people lived and went about their lives, and so she had signed her life away.

She had no idea that she would meet the people she would meet, nor did she have any idea that she would be kidnapped while on her way to a ball with the first friends she had ever had in her life.

She did not know that she would go on the first adventure she would ever go on and that for the first time in her life she actually had the power to choose for herself things. It was freedom.

She did not know that they would be rescued and that she would be literally thrown into Brooks’ arms. Nor that she would fall in love with him. That she would finally have all of her dreams come true.

Until they were ripped from her when they got back. And she was done.

Needing to get away from the stress, the medicine, being unable to see her husband when she wanted.

Being able to sleep in his large arms once again.

She hated it all. Most of all she hated her parents. And the man they wanted her to marry.

He would come around every Sunday and have luncheon with them.

The entire time he was there, he gave her leering looks and would whisper that he could not wait to break in her body.

She had to hide her shudder and her revulsion with thinking he could touch her like Brooks.

So when she had the opportunity to get away from it all for at least a week? She jumped at the chance.

She was still shocked her parents had agreed to let her attend but after the Duchess herself had asked to have her accompany her to the country her parents had acquiesced and she had agreed to take the maid her parents wanted for her.

Her new maid seemed like she was a nice girl, and though she had tried to make friends with her, Persephone did not even speak to anyone in her household any longer.

The pain of losing Alice too much and she did not want to go through that again.

So here they sat quietly, while they rode to the estate and she wanted to be out of the carriage and in her husband's arms.

Though she knew they needed to be cautious. Now that her maid was here, they had to make certain they were not caught.

She looked out the window at the endless trees and grasses and let out a tiny sigh.

She had longed to be with her husband again. Had missed his touch and his love.

He was the only person aside from Alice years ago and Lily, Rose and Eden now that ever asked what she wanted. Who even cared that she knew her own mind and body and didn’t want the things that she was given.

Was tired of living a lie and tired of being told what to do with every single moment of her life.

She wanted to leave it all behind. And to start living her life with Brooks.

Getting to the estate and spending time with Brooks and everyone else was beyond anything she had ever wished.

And she had soaked up every second of being with Brooks.

He would sneak in her room and make love to her over and over until they fell asleep, sated and happy in each other's arms.

He would wake her with kisses and then leave with one last orgasm for her with his tongue and then they would spend as much time together as they could under the watchful eye of Anneliese.

They would sit in the library, reading books and then Brooks would wheel her around the estate after they both bundled up in warm clothes.

As soon as they were far enough away, Brooks would kiss her breathless and they would lose themselves in the trees on the property.

Which is where they stumbled upon a small cottage.
