He looked over at Persephone and she was still wrapped in blankets and she was watching him as he moved around the room.

“Are you certain you want to leave all of this for me?”

He walked to where she was laying against the head of the bed and kissed her, hard.

“I went through hell for months without you. I did everything I could to try to keep my mind off the pain of you. How badly it hurt to not have you with me. I would give all that I am for you. To have you at my side and as my wife. These past few months were the hardest in my life and I have lived as a hungry, homeless child on the streets. I would take that over the pain of losing you every single day.”

Her eyes teared up and he swept them away with his thumb. She leaned up and kissed him, “I missed you as well. It felt as if I died inside. And for those few months I stayed in my bed and did not speak to anyone. Nor did I eat much. I could not. I hated every moment of not being with you. Of not being in your arms. By your side. You are the only person who has ever loved me. Truly loved me. I am sorry that you ever went through pain.”

He kissed her again, and pulled her naked body into his arms, where he turned and sat on the bed, “Well, we will never be alone again. I am yours, and you are mine. I will never let you out of my sight from here on out.”

She grinned up at him, “I am more than happy with that. I don’t ever want to be far from you.”

He kissed her again and she ran her hands over his skin, but he pulled back and shook his head, “We need to see Burk, and Carter. I need to apologize for my behavior.”

She raised her eyebrow, and he shrugged. “I was pretty unbearable at times.”

He gave her a sheepish smile and she laughed, “I was too.”

He laughed and then stood her up, “Have you walked much these last few months?”

She shook her head, “Not really. I did what I could, but I had no maid, and no one to help me.”

He grit his teeth, “I am here now. You will be able to do everything you ever wanted to with me at your side.”

She bit her lip and looked up at him with her honey eyes, “Have a child?”

He felt his cock jerk to life at the mention of that and he could just see her round with his child, a little one already seated at her feet as she held a small one in her lap and read them a story.

“You wish to be a mother?”

She nodded, “I want nothing more than to be the mother I never had. To love our child or children. To be the mother who loves her child unconditionally.”

Brooks put his hand on her stomach, “I want to see you swell with my child. You will glow. I can see it.”

She leaned into him, “I love you. I want our life. Our family. You and me.”

He kissed her neck softly, “I want that as well. Come, let’s go see Burk. I need to thank him.”

She nodded, and he helped her dress in one of the dresses she had Burk help her pack and he kissed her lips softly when they were done.

She braided her hair and left it hanging down her back and he ran his hand over the light brown strands.

Her golden eyes looked up into his and he kissed her. Then he laced their fingers together and pulled her from the room.

Burk was in his office, and Lily was there as well. Her stomach swelling with their child and Brooks loved that Persephone wanted a child with him.

Burk looked up from his paperwork that he had in front of him and Lily put down the paintbrush she had in her hands and wiped her hands clean.

She hurried to Persephone’s side and gave her a hug, “You look so much better. Happier.”

Persephone looked up at him, “I am. Being with Brooks and with you have been some of the only times I was happy. In my entire life. I just existed. And it was a miserable existence. Sad, lonely and filled with endless medicine, doctors and those who thought I was ill all the time. I found out that it was mainly because I was an inconvenience to them that made them be that way. And now that I am back with the man I love; I will never leave his side again. I refuse to be anyone’s inconvenience again. To be someone’s meal ticket.”

Lily’s eyebrows rose, “Good for you. I am proud of you Seph. You deserve it. Out of everyone I know, you and Brooks deserve to be happy.”

Brooks kissed Persephone’s knuckles softly, “I need to thank you. Both of you. For finding her and getting her out of there. I have been so angry and hurt for so long, I was blind to everything else around me. You even told me she was back in London, but in my whiskey-soaked brain I did not believe you. Thank you for what you did. For me. And for her.”

Burk stood, and came to his side, hugging him. “You are my brother Brooks. I only want your happiness. Just as you wanted mine with Lily. You stood by my side and helped me win her over and for that I will be forever grateful and forever in your debt. Of course I would help find her. She is as much my family as you are. You need her, like I need Lily. And if I had to steal her away, then that is the price I will pay for you.”
