She mouthed it back and he gave her a wink, then focused on the ring. He moved his neck from side to side and jumped up and down a few times, moving his arms and she could tell this was something he did regularly.
Burk was doing the same thing but stood inches over her love.
Lily was also fanning herself and Persephone had to hold in her laughter.
Burk’s body had more scars than Brooks, and she knew he was handsome, but not the man for her.
Lily looked over and winked at her and then leaned in, “Seeing those men like that is something isn’t it?”
She nodded and Lily sat back and laughed.
Carter got the crowd under control again; he introduced the other men and Persephone watched in amazement as a change came over the men in the ring.
Brooks became something else. A different being entirely. The Angel’s King. It was mesmerizing and she leaned forward a bit to see him better.
Carter stood in the middle of the ring and yelled, “Fighters! Fight!”
He moved out of the way as the two other men ran at Brooks and Burk.
But their blows never landed. The brothers moved so seamlessly it was incredible and their fists flew out, hitting their opponents.
The grunts from the other men could be heard over the silence of the crowd and then, cheering, yelling and more started coming out of their shocked mouths.
Burk and Brooks moved together as one as they took down their opponents with barely any sweat on their part.
The two men were on the mat with each brother kneeling on them and Carter jumped over to them, “We have our winners! Is it any wonder?”
The crowd went insane once more and she clapped right along with them, until she saw a face in the crowd that made her body go still and grow cold with the realization that she had been found.
Bruce stood still in the moving crowd and he was looking up at her, his eyes cold as ice.
He looked over at Brooks and Burk, and mouthed, “And now he is dead.”
She stood, her heart in her throat when he pulled a pistol from his coat and took aim, and she screamed a warning at Brooks, who whipped his head around and she saw him push Burk to the side, barely missing the bullet that flew his way.
It missed them both, but Carter was not so lucky, and it hit him in the upper shoulder, making him fall back with blood flying from his arm.
The sound of the gun was loud and people around Bruce started screaming and trying to run from the building.
He took aim again with a different gun, this time at her. Bran had jumped from his seat when she had stood and screamed and threw her to the ground, making her grunt with how heavy he was.
She heard Lily cry out as she too was thrown more carefully to the floor, and Grant’s large frame shielded her.
The sound of a bullet hitting the chair she had been sitting in was shocking and she wanted to see what was happening, but with Bran’s weight on her small frame she could not move.
Another bullet pinged the small space and she screamed in fear, not wanting anyone to get hurt because of her.
She heard her name screamed from down below and could only pray that Bruce would not try to hurt Brooks again.
She felt Bran’s heavy breathing and he looked down at her with concern in his dark eyes.
“Are you all right?” She gave a tiny nod and he got up on his knees, “Stay down, I need to see what is going on.”
She stayed on the ground even though everything inside her screamed to get up and see what was happening.
He peeked over the side and then pulled a pistol from his coat and took aim.
The retort of the gun was loud, and more people screamed in terror.
