He kissed her, “I cannot wait for that day.”
She melted against him, “Help me dress?”
He nodded and together they got her dressed and she was just brushing out her long light brown hair when a knock sounded at their door.
Brooks opened it and Lily stood there, “May I help with your hair?”
Persephone grinned, “Please.”
Lily walked in the room and Persephone handed her the brush.
Lily ran the brush through her hair a few times and then with deft fingers twisted and pulled softly on her hair, until it was a beautiful style and Persephone grinned at her.
“That was so quick. Thank you. It’s beautiful.”
Lily grinned, “Rose and I learned how to do our hair quickly and efficiently when we were growing up. It’s a trait that hasn’t stopped.”
Persephone looked at herself in the mirror, looking happier than she had, well ever. “Thank you.”
Lily nodded, “You are very welcome. Rose is coming for a visit today. I long to see her.”
Persephone brightened, “Truly? Oh, I would love to see her as well. Can we?”
She looked at Brooks who was sitting on their bed and he grinned, “Of course. We are going to see the children today, but we will stop after to see her.”
Lily grinned and gave a small hop of excitement, “Oh, tell them all hello for me. I wish to get them some more books and toys. And was planning on seeing them with Rose in the next few days.”
Brooks laughed, “Mary always gets angry at Burk and I for trying to spoil them. How is it you are allowed?”
Lily laughed, “I just know how to talk to her in a way you don’t.”
Brooks laughed, “All right, I concede.”
Lily laughed and walked from the room and another knock sounded, this time on the open-door moments later.
A young man stood in the doorway, he had dark brown hair and was fidgeting with his clothes and looking everywhere but at her.
She smiled slightly from her chair and Brooks laughed, “Billy. Come meet my wife.”
Billy’s light green eyes finally landed on hers, and she smiled. “Hello. I have heard much about you.”
Billy gave her a soft smile, and said, “I have as well. I am very glad to meet you my lady. And I am grateful to see you here and unharmed.”
She smiled, and held out her hand, which he took and kissed the back of softly, “Thank you. Those are kind words and they mean a lot.”
Billy grinned, and looked over at Brooks, “She is too beautiful for you Brooks. But she isn’t for me.”
Brooks threw his head back and laughed, “Same old Billy. Trying to get the girl he can’t.”
Billy laughed too and shrugged. “It cannot hurt to try.”
Brooks shook his head, still laughing, and Persephone stood and walked to her husband’s side.
She gave him a tiny swat, “Be kind.”
Billy snorted, “Oh no my lady. He is right. I just have to see if their women really don’t want someone younger and much more handsome. It hasn’t worked yet, but it was worth a shot.”
She laughed now and Billy gave her a slight nod and then walked from the room.
