Brooks
London, England April 1813
Looking for Rose in the dark streets of London and in Whitechapel was like trying to find a small needle in a full haystack.
He knew that it would be almost impossible and with each hour that passed, and no new information was found or given, he grew frustrated.
They searched for two days with no leads and with each dead end, he knew how hard it was.
The only bright spot was that Cabe had returned the next day. And just in the nick of time.
He had joined the search and Brooks could only pray they found her.

The next night, Burk had found him at a pub, trying to find any information about the missing woman and had gotten nothing.
He had just walked out the door to get back on his horse when Burk rode up.
“She has been found. Well, she came home on her own. Covered in blood and promising to tell us what happened.”
Brooks let out a sigh of relief, “Thank god. I need to tell Persephone.”
Burk nodded and Brooks rode like a bat out of hell to get back to his wife and tell her what happened.
He had not seen her much and he missed her.
When he stormed up the stairs of the salon, Billy had his gun trained on him and Brooks smiled at him.
Billy took a deep breath and let it out. “She is asleep. She has not come out. I did make her food and she ate some of it.”
Brooks hugged Billy, “Thank you. For everything.”
Billy nodded and went to his room, and Brooks knocked softly on the door to their room.
Persephone’s voice came from the other side, “Who is it?”
“It’s me love.”
He heard her gasp and the door was unlocked and thrown open.
She was in his arms in the next breath and he was kissing her.
She pulled back from their kiss, to gasp out, “Was she found?”
Brooks nodded, “She was. She is safe at home and will tell everyone in the morning what happened.”
She sagged with relief into his arms, “Oh thank heavens. I was so worried.”
He pushed her back into their room and locked the door behind them, “I know. I was too. Burk and Lily are staying at the townhouse tonight.”
She nodded, “I can see why. Oh, I am so happy she is all right.”
She looked at him, “She is all right isn’t she?”
He shook his head slowly, “I believe she is, but Burk told me that she came back on her own and was covered in blood.”
Persephone’s eyes went wide, “Oh! Oh no!”
