Brooks hugged Rhia, and then kissed her cheek. “We are together now, and that is all that matters.”
Rhia smiled up at him, “I am so relieved. Aidan and I were worried about you both. He tried to send letters to Bruce and Kitty, but they were returned, or we never got an answer. We tried to find you. Truly we did.”
Persephone let out a soft sob, “Thank you Rhia. It means so much to me. They took me where no one would find me. Reginald is very wealthy and has many houses. It would have been extremely hard to find me there. But knowing you were searching for me is something I cannot thank you enough for.”
Rhia hugged her again, “Are you staying with us? We would love it.”
Brooks nodded, “We are staying in the manor house for the night, but I believe you will be bombarded with guests in the next few days.”
Rhia’s eyes lit up again, “Really?”
He nodded, “Everyone wishes to retire to the country for a bit. I know Cole cannot stay for long, but everyone is coming.”
Rhia clapped her hands and Aidan chuckled, “I will let Mr. and Mrs. Peabody know, as well as Ida and Jane. Our new staff will be thrilled to have someone to wait on.”
Rhia laughed, “So true. They do not know what to do half the time. But Aidan has not had to work as hard, so I love them being here.”
Brooks laughed, and Rhia led them from the room, her gait strong and steady.
Aidan saw Brooks notice his wife’s gait and he whispered, “My wife has been trying to exercise her leg more and my mother has been rubbing it with herbs and different poultices every night to help. It seems like it has. She is more confident in her walk and has not fallen once. Not for months.”
Brooks smiled over at Aidan, and Aidan grinned back.
“She looks beautiful. She has truly blossomed here.”
Aidan nodded, “She certainly has. I love her more than I did when we met. She is my savior. She pulled me from the hell I lived in and I did the same for her.”
Brooks looked at his wife, “Mine did the same. Women like that are rare.”
Aidan nodded and watched Rhia carefully walk up the stairs. “They are. I can only be grateful I found mine.”
Brooks nodded and the Duke and Duchess led them to a grand room, in the family wing of the house.
“We shall see you both in the morning, ring if you need anything.”
Brooks smiled and Aidan led Rhia from the room and shut the door behind them.
