Rhia had, sweet girl that she was, but she had left after her husband needed her for something.
She knew the girls would not normally leave her be, but today she had asked for some quiet.
They had granted her request and Persephone was glad.
She had gotten dressed in the best dress she had and had tried to fix her hair, though it had become such a bother, that she left it down and left it alone.
She combed it until it shone and was happy that she was free in the dress she picked and how her hair was.
It was a small bit of freedom, another tiny one that she loved. And as they got closer and closer to home, she dreaded leaving it behind.
Another soft knock sounded, and she started a little. Completely lost in thought and forgetting that someone was at the door.
Hurrying over to the door, she opened it and wanted to sigh. Brooks was there and looking more handsome than ever.
He had his hair brushed back out of his face and had recently shaved.
He normally had a bit of stubble on his chin, golden like his hair, and she loved it.
But he must have noticed it had softly scraped her skin this morning and had fixed the problem.
He smiled at her and she smiled back, “Good evening lovely. Are you ready?”
She bit her lip and nodded. She was nervous and hoped against hope that when she got back from this, that her parents would let her leave.
Let her have her life with her husband. But she was afraid it would never happen. Her parents had not listened to her in the entire time she had been alive, only wanting what they thought was best and she knew it would not change.
But she was going to do this. To protect herself from them. Or try at least.
And she would be married to the man she loved. Not some man old enough to be her father. One who made her blood go cold when he came around.
She would have the man she loved. Even for a short time.
Brooks wrapped her arm around his and led her from the room slowly.
Not noticing her apprehension and how she was once again lost in thought.
She needed to stop this. Her parents were not here. She did not have to worry about them yet.
This night was for her, and for the love of her life. The man who loved her from the beginning and who would never give her up.
Letting him lead her to a small cabin, she finally let go of her worries.
When they went inside, only Cabe and his first mate, Nathaniel were there.
The tiny cabin was lit with a few candles and it looked wonderful.
Cabe smiled at her softly and she gave him a tiny one in return.
Nathaniel shut the door behind them, and Brooks turned her to face him.
He cupped her face in his large hands softly, “Are you certain you want to do this my love? If you want to wait, or if you have any reservations, it’s all right.”
She shook her head, “I was worried, but not now. Right now, I want to marry you. The man I love.”
Brooks grinned and took his hands away from her face and took both her hands in his.
Cabe cleared his throat, “Then let us proceed.”
