Persephone

Northumberland, England June, 1813

Persephone woke in the early morning to the light of dawn creeping across the floor of their room. They had been at the cottage for just over two months and every single day was complete and total bliss.

Brooks had taught her many things about making her body stronger. He taught her how to fight and many times their fights would turn into them making passionate love wherever they were practicing.

She loved being with him in that way. He always made her body sing with pleasure and she loved how passionate he was.

Over their time at the small cottage, she had gained much needed weight. He made her eat often, as did Rhia, Anneliese and Lydia. And now she had a secret.

She was with child. Finally. She thought it would never happen, but she needed to be away from the medicine constantly shoved down her throat and to gain the weight that her body needed.

She loved carrying Brooks’ child inside her and he was so happy that he was to be a father.

They had gotten to know one another and had spent a great deal of time with Rhia, Aidan, Lydia, Jacob, Cabe and Rose as well.

Jacob had done a lot for her, finding out about her parents and their legacy.

They had truly loved her and had wished for a child since they had wed.

It took some time, but when Charlotte had conceived, they had been thrilled.

Bryant was very loving and kind and tried to do all he could for his family, and for Charlotte’s older parents that had been massively wealthy.

Her father had passed away first from a long drawn out sickness and then her mother had gone from a broken heart, not wanting to live without her husband. Not long after Charlotte had found out she was with child, and she had been heartbroken.

Her parents had always been so respectful and sweet to Bryant and even though they had a wealth to rival most, of the well to do Lords and Ladies of the realms, they never acted as if they were better than anyone else.

And Bryant had been accepted into the family with love.

She loved finding out about her parents this way and wished she could have met them.

Jacob let her know that there were some unusual disappearances and murders after her mother had died.

No one had seen the doctor that delivered her, or the people who had helped with it.

But they had let all suspicions go of Bruce and Kitty, as they were in mourning and now had a small, sick baby to raise.

Persephone longed to know more, but this was all Jacob had been able to find and she had given him a kiss on his cheek and thanked him.

She wished her life had been different.

She had told Brooks this, and told him that she was grateful that she had the life she had, otherwise she wouldn’t have met him, and he just kissed her and told her he would have found her no matter what.

She loved him even more and fell in love with the family that had accepted her and Brooks with open arms and no questions asked.

Persephone had worked with Rhia, Lydia, Anneliese and Julia on Rhia’s leg. And Rhia was stronger than ever.

Yes, she still walked with a limp, but it was less noticeable and now that she was even more pregnant, Aidan was always at her side.

Persephone smiled and snuggled in closer to Brooks’ who was still fast asleep.

He had slept harder here than he had in his life. He told her that once and she loved that he was able to relax enough to do so.

It was June now, but even though it was summer, it would sometimes get cold outside, especially when a rainstorm blew in like it had last night and the fire had gone out in the night.

She needed to use the chamber pot and get the fire going again. And then she was going to wake her husband.
