Miles greeted him with a smile and followed him into his office.

“We have that call at nine today with Neil. I don’t like him and haven’t heard much good things about him.” Miles said and rolled his eyes.

Gunner smiled. “I know. I have heard of his reputation. I also know that he cuts corners in his builds. I know all about it Miles and I don’t like it either. But I want to see if he will admit to his failings, or if he is just as bad as they all say. I want to catch him in his lies.”

Miles sighed. “Fine. I don’t like it. You know he is a slimy little worm of a man. One in it for the money, not for the joy of the build.”

Gunner snorted. “I know. People have tried their best to get him to admit his guilt and I want to see just how he handles the accusations I throw his way. I just have to see if I can stop this. He has to admit to his failings or they can’t arrest him.”

Miles frowned. “Fine. I know you are right and I hate it.”

Gunner laughed. “Just get it ready.”

Miles nodded, “Your weekly lunch with Raiden is today. I have it scheduled for noon.”

Gunner nodded, knowing he and his best friend had a weekly lunch that neither missed. No matter how busy the other was.

“And your sister called. She reminded me that she and Luke are going out of town, and that it is Halloween. She wants you to have no distractions while you have Cassidy, so you need to get work done for the weekend while they go on their,” Miles stopped and laughed, “and I quote, ‘Babymoon’.”

Gunner smiled. He knew all about the weekend he was keeping Cassidy. Genna had sent him a detailed text. And a detailed email. She was thorough. That was for sure.

And he knew how excited they were to get away for a bit before their new baby came in six weeks.

Gunner could hardly wait- he loved being an uncle, and getting to spend this weekend with Cassidy was exactly what he needed.

He wanted to take her trick or treating and she had already told him all about her costume.

He had ordered one to match her character, but hadn’t told her about it, and he didn’t mind that it was the prince who happened to look the most like him.

Miles had given him grief for it, as had Raiden, but his best friend was also wrapped around Cassidy’s finger.

And Gunner was shocked that Raiden wasn’t going to come along when he took Cassidy.

He smiled thinking of his friend and his niece and the bond they had. Raiden had been his friend since they were twelve and Gunner thought of him like a brother. As had Genna.

He was there with Gunner at the hospital when Cassidy was born. And had also become Cassidy’s uncle. Raiden had been there at every single holiday and birthday, had even been at the party with his mermaid and Gunner hated it.

Knowing that Raiden had met Gunner’s mermaid before he did ate at him and for the first time he was jealous of his best friend. He didn’t want Raiden to know how taken he was after looking at just one picture of the woman.

Raiden would give him grief about it. Knowing that Gunner hadn’t even looked twice at a woman his entire life and found his ‘one’ with just one picture.

He wanted nothing more than to find his mermaid, and maybe he could try to find out more about her but try not to give Genna too many ideas.

Raiden and Genna both would give him grief over it. Telling him constantly that he needed to slow down and find a good woman to love. He was surprised Miles hadn’t told them about his infatuation.

Those three had been telling him for years to settle down. Even though Raiden and Miles were both single as well.

Gunner knew Raiden didn’t date. That he was just as busy as he himself was.

He shook his head when Miles buzzed his phone. “Neil Rose is on line one.”

Gunner sighed and picked up the phone. “Neil, how are things?”

Neil’s obnoxious voice came over the line, “Oh just fine Gun.” Making Gunner roll his eyes.

“Been busy with some new townhouses over on Maple.”

Gunner nodded, “I heard about that. That’s a good contract to have.”
