“So true. We should still celebrate though, just a little later.”
“Okay.”
He grinned, “Anything else you want to know?”
She tapped her chin, “Um, what do you love to eat?”
“I’m not picky and will eat pretty much anything you put in front of me. But I like meat and potatoes. The ones my ma makes are my favorite. She is from Scotland, -as you know- and there is just something about home cooking from her country that makes it better.”
Mila nodded, “I love that actually. I understand that completely. Okay, have you been in a relationship before?”
He shook his head, “I’m afraid not. When I was in high school, I saw too many girls who acted one way and away from anyone else acted another. I didn’t like that. So I stayed far away and then I started my career as a police officer. It took all of my time and I didn’t want to date anyway.”
“Oh. Uh. Okay. Um,” she said, flustered.
He kissed her hand again, “Did I upset you with this?”
She shook her head, “No. I actually find it so hard to believe, but I know you aren’t lying to me. So, I'm just trying to wrap my brain around it.”
He laughed, “Okay. One, I have no reason to lie to you. I am not that way. No matter what. I would never lie to you about this. Two, I just knew deep in my soul that I wanted what my parents have. What my grandparents had. They knew from the start that they were meant to be together and have never gone or looked back. Never questioned if it was right. They just jumped in with both feet and kept on running. And I knew that even though there were some beautiful girls out there, that they didn’t make my soul recognize its other half. That my heart wasn’t fully whole. So, I didn’t try to give that part of myself to anyone who wasn’t my girl. And I didn’t regret it. Still don’t. Because the minute I laid eyes on you, I knew you were meant to be mine. And I just hope that you see it too. That someday you will catch up to me and that we will get the future I have always wanted. The one I can see with you and you alone.”
He looked at her and her eyes were wide, the golden color so mesmerizing.
He grinned, “Did I shock you?”
She nodded, still speechless.
He gave a soft chuckle, “I just had to make sure everything was completely cleared up and that you have no reason to not believe me.”
She finally blinked a few times, “I was not expecting that. At all. Just let me say that. And, yet…. I feel the same way about you. When I saw you, it was like I could breathe for the first time in my life. And I didn’t know what I was missing.”
He leaned over and kissed her, needing his mouth on her after hearing that confession.
She moaned into his mouth when he made contact with hers and it was the best sound, he had ever heard.
She leaned into him as much as she could and he turned his body into hers and buried his good hand into her hair, tilting her head to his and with that she let out a gasp and he claimed her mouth with a deeper kiss.
When he coaxed her tongue into playing with his, and she let him take the lead, he let out a groan of his own.
He wanted nothing more than to have her climb into his lap, but a car honked, and she jumped away from him, her lips swollen and glistening.
She touched them and looked over at him with her golden eyes full of want and need.
He had to adjust the length of his erection and she let out a whimper.
“You can’t look at me like that my goddess. Otherwise, we're going to get arrested for indecent exposure. And how would that look if an officer got caught that way?”
She gave a small laugh, “You got me there. Fine,” she blew out a breath. “Let’s go meet the family.”
He laughed and held her hand in his again as they drove and she talked about her family, her mom and dad, and her little sister Mackenzie.
He told her about his siblings and growing up with his two cultures.
They pulled into the diner and she put her head on the steering wheel.
“Why are you so nervous?” He asked and she looked over at him, “I've never brought a guy to meet my family before. I was really shy in high school and barely had any friends. So this is a big deal.”
He kissed her hand again, “Babe, it’s okay. I promise. Everything is fine.”
She nodded and he opened the door on his side, “Stay put until I come get you out.”
She raised her eyebrows at him and sat back, and he hurried around to help her from the car.
Then he laced their fingers together. “Might as well let them know what is happening.”
She laughed, “Okay.”
Then he walked with her into the diner and the people that were seated inside all turned to look at them.
