Rhonda gave a helpless shake of her head, “I don’t know.”
Mila thanked her and then drove to Grandma Viv’s house.
She hurried up the stairs and knocked on the door and Kian opened it, dressed in his uniform.
“Is Reid here?”
Kian’s eyebrows pulled together, “No. He still is staying at the McGuire’s house, right?”
She nodded, “Yes, but he didn’t go home last night, and he didn’t come to my house. Did he sneak in and no one saw him?”
Kian shook his head, “I don’t think so.”
He let her inside the house, and called out, “Gran, did Reid come home?”
Grandma Viv walked in the living room, confusion on her face, “No. What is going on?”
Mila felt the blood drain from her face, “He hasn’t talked to me since yesterday morning. When he left the doctors. None of my texts have been answered. Let me call him.”
She pulled her phone out and called Reid’s. It rang and rang and then went to his voicemail.
She looked up at Kian, “Nothing.”
Kian pulled his phone out and sent a text and then called Reid himself.
“Nothing. Okay, there isn’t anything to worry about. Maybe he went to go see Emery? And forgot to turn on his phone?”
Mila sat down while Kian called Emery. She heard Emery’s confusion over the phone as she said that Reid wasn’t there either.
She stood and felt sick. “Where is he?”
Kian shook his head and called the doctor’s office, where he put his phone away seconds later after hearing that Reid was in one piece when he left yesterday morning.
Kian called the physical therapist office and found out that Reid had missed his appointment and Mila felt even more sick.
“He hasn’t missed a single appointment. That isn’t like him.” She said and Kian nodded, “Let me call Brek and Trace and see if he came to the station for some reason?”
She sat back down and waited, but as soon as Kian’s face fell, she stood again.
She was starting to freak out and turned, racking her brain to think of where he could be.
When nothing came to her, she called him again and again.
She felt Kian touch her back, and his face was grim. “Let’s see if we can find his truck. If he got in an accident, sometimes we don’t always know. The roads out of town are steep and we could have missed it.”
She covered her mouth, “Oh god.”
Kian shook his head, “We can’t assume. We just have to look.”
She went with him to his car and sat in silence as they drove, and Kian’s body was tight with strain.
She saw him text Karalee and she picked up her phone, calling Reid again.
She felt sick to her stomach as they slowly drove the back roads, trying to spot any sign of an accident.
When there was nothing, and they reached the end of town, Kian kept going.
Doing his best to scout the woods for any sign of a car accident.
